Once the truck comes back I got the stuff to do a oil change on it. Then dad is coming over so I can do some spark plugs, and a new COP on the Excursion. Guess you could say I've got a few projects for the day.
Tires look great Larry. Might be time for a change in elevation.
Hope you get your rig back together Dustin.
I believe my clock spring is bad on the steering column. I've read and watched some tutorials. I may give it a shot. It creates an open circuit and kills all the wheel controls. Airbag, cruise, radio, horn (from wheel. horn still works otherwise). I don't think it's the cruise control pack. It seems fine and doesn't appear burnt at the connectors. All the connections are good and tight under the dash. All applicable fuses and relays have been checked and are good.

Anyone done the clockspring?
I've done a few hundred MB clocksprings, when they were under recall. Nice and easy job. Make sure you start with the wheel perfectly straight. I usually count the number of spins left to right and right to left from center a couple of times and make sure the wheel is straight on the shaft before I begin. Then line it up, d-con the battery (watch out for the airbag!). I always stand off to the side when d-conning an airbag. I've seen what those suckers do! when you remove the clockspring, there usually a hole or something to put a pin in. I keep several pins for MB around here, but a cut piece on metal coat hanger should be 'close' enough.
This is the clock spring. Several connections under the dash, under the airbag unit on wheel, and at the ignition switch. Wheel puller only tool I need but don't have. Just mark the wheel with the shaft is all that's needed to keep aligned. Can't just disconnect battery. Have to let separate air bag battery discharge like a capacitor before removing.
I can rent a wheel puller from advance. After wheel off everything unplugs, slides off. Then slide on new one and re attach connections. Seems easy enough. I guess we'll find out.
A cause for the flex to break like that is the locating pins between motor & trany are missing or lose so make sure you check them out.

Dowels were tight, had the original flexplate and flywheel setup, they had issues and were revised to an updated design in 91/92. That's what's on it now. My uncle's 2001 had the same issues, most I see online are cracked in the same spot under the reinforcement plate. Here is the old style and new style. It's back on the road now, rear main seal is dry, so far so good.

Sounds about right. That yellow tab at the top, is that the 'pin' that stops the clock spring from unwinding until it's installed? If so leave it in until you have to pull it. I don't know what holds the front on yours that you have to have installed before pulling the pin. So I'd probably look for that when you pull it.
Lot of work to replace that, Dusty! At least you know it's done right and with the better quality part now.
It was a weekend job.
Rear main was fixed while it was out, which was 90% of the oil leaking, valve covers are the other culprit. Had a battery die on me Monday, swapped in some others, took care of the issue, resealed the tailshaft housing too.
scored some seats for the 350 this weekend. Got the panel prepped for paint. Hopefully will get to shoot some primer on it today. Ordered a test qt of the paint I'm hoping to use. It's not the PPG everyone keeps recommending, that stuff is just to pricey for a truck that I'll be using, it would be a different story if it was a show piece, I guess.
Apparently excursion/f250 clocksprings are rare birds. No parts store has them. I've found several online but as soon as I try to purchase it states not in stock or not available.
Am I going to have to go to the stealership to get this freaking part?
