Just step back a bit and relax, Dave. Give it a week or two then back "at it". You'll get it done.

In 2011/2012 I upgraded to used 37" Nitto Terra Grapplers. About 3.5-4 years ago, I started having intermittent starting issues. Then one day it just wouldn't start at all. So it sat parked next to the garage until February of this year when I dragged it up to the driveway in hopes that I would gain some motivation to get it back on the road. Tough task in itself with a 2yo son and our 3mo daughter...gotta make time for family. But it's happening...slowly but surely...
  • Replace fuel pump, sender unit, fuel filter - COMPLETE
    • Dropped the tank which had 20gal of gas in it. Manually siphoned to gas cans to be disposed of at the landfill (physically hurt to pour that gas out and think about how much it cost me back when I pumped it). Cleaned up the tank straps and the filler neck the best I could and sprayed them with some rust inhibitor and rubberized coating. They look great now. After re-install...primed the system and The Beast was alive again. Missed the sound of the roar it makes!
  • Replace the brake hardlines along the rear axle - WORK IN PROGRESS
    • While I dragged the truck up to the driveway, one of the rear hardlines let loose due to age/rust. Got all replacement lines for the rear from the hardlines along the frame down to the calipers. Just need to install them.
  • Replace the brake calipers, rotors, pads...all 4 corners - COMING SOON
    • Not sure I have ever done a brake job on The Beast since I've had it, so figured I'd bite the bullet and do an upgrade. Looking at the top of the line Power Stop set...cuz it's all fun and games until you can't stop...lol. I will likely check out the hardlines up front when I tear into the brakes also to see if I should replace them also. May consider doing the parking brake shoes also based on the amount of rust on everything else currently. And it'll just be a good time since it'll all be torn down anyway.
  • Replace the windshield - COMING SOON
    • One of the last times I was out wheeling, I gunned it by mistake while passing under a low tree branch at the same time. The CB antenna I had mounted on the tool box whipped and slapped the passenger top corner of the windshield so hard it cracked the windshield pretty bad and sounded like a 9mm went off in the cab. Scare the mess out of me when it happened...I stopped and looked around like some A-hole just shot at me. Didn't realize the windshield was cracked until I got home. Not sure if The Beast will pass inspection with the windshield in it's current state.
  • Troubleshoot and repair the rear suicide doors - COMING SOON
    • Both sets of handles on both doors don't seem to do anything. I'm assuming the actuator cable inside the door deteriorated or broke. This is a low priority as it has no impact on getting the truck road worthy.
  • Oil Change - COMING SOON
  • Check Fluids - WORK IN PROGRESS
  • Replace tires - COMING SOON
    • Trying to find a decent set of 37" MTs for the 18" wheels for a decent price. May just suck it up and buy new, but not looking forward to dropping $2k on rubber. Again, not sure the currently tires will pass inspection...they may pass...barely.

That pretty much sums up the list...for now. I had thoughts of not putting it back on the road and hauling it around to the mud pits for weekend racing, but my 07' Sport Trac would struggle to haul The Beast, I don't have a car trailer, and I think daily driving will make me just as happy for a while. I have pics of the fuel system job, but they are on my phone and I'm on my laptop at the moment. Maybe I'll post them up later on in one of the non-NC threads.

If you've read this far...thanks for sticking with me on this one...sorry for the long read...
Brandon, sounds like quite a long list. Good luck with getting it complete. I know about getting an old truck back on the road. It's a slow and steady and painful process.

Now to find why the miss?
Start checking with carb cleaner and found the leak at #1 intake port to head.
I know I cleaned everything good so don't know why it is leaking?
Cleaned up the mess in the garage before backing the truck back in and calling it a day or a week or a month!
At this point I hate this truck and don't want to work on it any more so it will sit.

I don't know if I can maybe move the intake a little to fix this or not and if I have to get a new gasket again or not as it is new for this last bit of work.
If moving the intake will not fix it everything, EFI exh, manifolds & intake manifold have to come off and to do this the ALT & bracket has to come off to do that.
So don't know when I will want to get back to this thing
Dave ----
I understand the pain. Two steps forward, one step back. Least it's motor work and not body work right?

Thanks guys I am thinking of picking up another gasket so I can play with it over this long weekend.
I was doing this so I did not had to do the last little bit of body work. Guess that's what I get

Well, my wrecker's going to need a new cab, no chance of finding much in the way of good metal to shake a bit of welding wire at.
The good is that she's a 400, 1979 (as most here were correct in telling me) and I got her briefly running yesterday with a drip-feed fuel line.
The bad is that the cab's gone and the rear end is locked either with brakes or internals.
Another $125 at the auction and I could have had a replacement cab (and the rest of the vehicle) why is hindsight always 20/20.
It's got original (?) split rim dually wheels which I'll be looking to replace when the local junkyards buy the right things in.
*haven't started on it yet and I'm looking at a shopping list...

Changed the gear oil in the John Deere, wouldn't hardly drain, put diesel fuel in, ran it around the yard, govenor rod end came off and got lost in the yard, got a new one from Ace hardware, then proceeded to warm it up and drain it. Painting the replacement fuel tank spectra sent me for the f250, it's getting leak tested Good before it goes in.

Mine are full tread, but in cut.

My class is what they call a "DOT" class so I have to run a un cut DOT approved tire. I'd have to step up to open renegade or unlimited to run cuts or tractor tires.

Worked on fixing the lawn sweeper today. One of the bolts sheered off and let the bearing walk out of its hole which got pinned on the outside of the wall... then the shaft cut a hole in the wall.

what it the wall should look like... the shaft ended up cutting an S shaped grove through the metal wall but didnt take a pic before i cut it out...

but you can see how far down(or up since its upside down there...) the shaft "drilled" through the wall...

patch panel test fit..

welded in..

nice clean penetration from welding on the outside...

ground down the outside welds for the next plans... so it wouldnt happen again i made some reinforcement panels for the bearing hole...

over head shot showing how much thicker i made the wall there...

shot of the good side just to show how thin the steel is..

then reinforced that side too,,

i later painted it but was pretty dark out after i finished cleaning up the tools and reassembling the sweeper axle to drop it back in tomorrow.. once its dropped back in i can re-rivet the lock panels back into place to hold the axle in... i also need to get a new bolt for the axle.. we had replaced the one that went missing and caused the issue to finish the yard but when i took the axle apart i found the other one that stayed is starting to sheer in half.. so going to replace it before it goes back in..

Shawn, How long did you use the sweeper for after that bolt broke?
I would think a long time the way it went thru that panel.

Last fall mine broke the cross shaft that joins the 2 wheels and adjusts how high the brush is.
When it was built the left & right sides were not level and the whole time I was using it it was twisting this bar till broke.
I found a pipe to fit inside the broken part to "sleeve it" throw a little weld on and paint and finished the yard.

BTW nice repair

when the bolt broke no clue when that happened... when i was using it last time i noticed that the wheels kept dragging instead of turning... so got off to look at it.. i didnt discover that the shaft had moved until i was pulling the wheels off to check the gears inside... the driverside wheel looked like the gears were mismatching too as it chewed up the plastic teeth on the wheel... then spent the next 1/2 hr trying to get the bearing loose from outside the sidewall and back into place... got around to fixing it yesterday... when i was pulling it apart i found the bolt from the other side looking like it was starting to sheer off too...

Mine came busted free from a friend. I think I just replaced the wheel with the teeth if I remember correctly. Guess these things aren't built super durable.

i think the wheels need another shim spacer on each wheel to sit behind the cotter pin... ive watched them kinda wobble going around the yard.. but dont have any washers that have a big enough hole to shim it back atm... think thats part of why the teeth are so marred up atm.. friend of mine in SC offered to give me his... originally turned it down but starting to think if i hadnt i could weld up a bracket to tow both of them and make the work go faster lol.. but dunno how big his is... i know they come in a few different widths... ours i think is 52"
