Ditto what Sparky said.
Looks like a 79 ( with rectangular head lights) . A 78 would have round ones with that body trim. Should be a sticker on the door or door jamb with info.
Watched some F series get sold for the crusher today at an auction, I managed to save this wrecker.
Year? best guess is later 70s but I've yet to get at the chassis with a wire brush to find the VIN.
She's a 400 with a manual floor shift. Not sure if this is next years project or the year afters.
Nice save. I've always wanted an old wrecker like that.
Thing is with saving the old ones. People want so much usually for them when they need full resto, and it's getting to where you can't even find parts for a decent price. The aftermarket has them, but when bumpers are 400 bucks and have the thickness, restoring an old one really starts getting pricey and not much better then just buying something off the lot. But that's probably me just complaining again. I do like to do that. If I had the time, I'd be looking for the next project. (though I think the fiance is going to limit how many vehicles I have in the yard at one time).
Got the thermostat housing replaced and recharged the a/c on the sport Trac.
Took the starter for the John Deere back to the starter shop, it was turning backwards, Bendix wouldn't engage. Got the new muffler on.
Finished getting the borgeson shaft ready to go in the f250.
Washed and waxed both trucks. Someone did some serious sanding on the hood on the Trac, between that and the hail damage, I'll just find a better hood.
Took the pup for a ride.
Starter shop apparently put in the wrong fields, swapped those, put on a new Bendix drive, spins the engine well now. Gotta throw the hood on and see if I can get it running now.
Got a leaking axle seal on the F100 (Ford 9 inch), loading up the brake drum with gear oil and then dripping onto the tire and slinging it all over the inside of the wheel well. Just a nice wonderful dirty greasy job to tackle! I can't get the axle out, I tried the backwards drum on the wheel studs trick, but it's not heavy enough. I have a friend with a slide hammer who told me Saturday he would bring it by and let me borrow it, but he never showed. Now I've just read about the so-called "chain trick" where you hook a heavy chain to the wheel stud, and then "whip" then chain, and that is supposed to jerk the axle hard enough to break it free. I'll try that later and see if I have any luck!

I'd just get a slide hammer from harbor freight or northern tool and be done with it.
Finally got the little deere running last night, carb was clean enough to drink from, couldn't figure out why the damn thing was leaking gas out of the carb, float was twisted, straightened that, cut the gas on and it immediatley fired up. Replaced a broken door lock actuator in the sport Trac and my smoke machine came in.
Glad you got it out...............Now the clean up fun begins.
The trouble with loan a tool is that you might like it so much, you might buy it.......
how is that trouble? But things like slide hammers that take abuse, I sometimes prefer to rent, since i wouldn’t want to own a cheap one, and won’t want to spend the money on Matco.

Ah a new smoke machine forget Autozone loan a tool, we’re going to have the Dustin loan a tool program. Serious though, dang useful tool to have for evap leaks. Couldn’t tell you how many times a smoke machine has made my life easier.
Well I'm loaded up and hopefully got everything Tomorrow morning I'm headed to SC to bolt the majority of my engine together. Got the short block loaded up in the truck, the heads, cam, lifters and intake are at my builders place in SC. I probably won't be able to sleep a bit tonight I'm so excited....

just make you check for the pup before moving the truck...
I picked up welding wire last Monday and installed it then and did a test so it would be ready to go when I was.
Was able to finish the welding yesterday and got them ground down. Fitted the lights to see what is needed to mount the lights.
It looks like I can use part of the light brackets by cutting the ears and welding them to the box I made on the bumpers to fit the lights.
Lights with brackets.
Back side of bumper showing the box I made
Front side of bumper with out light
Light in bumper tan one is tape on it and held in place the other is taken from below as I don't havethe tabs welded on yet.
I need to get longer bolts for the lights to the welded tabs and spacers before I can weld the tabs on.
I would have made a run to the hard ware store but the truck was moved out for more room and at this point it was stating to rain. No glass in truck and the cat was still out it was time to get both truck and cat inside.
I plan to get the bolts & spacers and also hit the auto parts store for a freeze plug or 2 as there was a puddle when I moved the truck out and I don't want 1 of the dogs getting to the leaking anti freeze.
