I set out to work on the truck today.... didn't get as much done as I had hoped.... Went to put plugs back in and soon realistic with the high rise exhaust ports that the headers wouldn't allow a spark plug socket to get in there. So off the headers came again for a date with the grinder for some clearance work....
And back on they went....
Got my alternator mounting figured out since the adjuster orginally mounted to the factory water pump and I'm now running electric water pump.
Got my transmission cooler back in and mounted, and wires hooked back up. Started running new wires to the fuel pump but remembered I needed to order a relay setup for it since the new one draws about 12amps verse the old one that only pulled 3.
So I'm slowly working away at it and getting somewhat closer to running....
After a weekend of thrashing......... let's just say...... IIITTTSSSSSS AALLIIIVVVVVEEEEE
Got to run through the valves again, and check/change a few other things. But I got it together enough to run it for a bit of a break in period. I was hoping for August 31st but I decided I got to much to do right now so I'm going to just plan on the big race at Jump and run on the 21st of September.
So yea.... Breather is up there for sure...
Gotta cut the grass tomorrow but I also plan on getting to work on putting new u joints and what not in the front axle.
Didn't get much done today, but atleast get the the front end on jack stands and the passenger side axle pulled and U joint replaced, then put it all back together. Just got to do that to the passenger side now and front axle should be ready to roll.
Last weekend I replaced the head light switch as it felt funky when I went to install the ****.
Put 5 gal of gas in front tank and tested gauge, it works also.
Trimmed the bolt needed for the trailer hitch and got that bolted back up and that was all after yard work on Saturday. 1
Sunday I was in the garage at 430 am till 230pm wet sanding the cab. I also washed the body work dust off the frame and under the hood.
1 more coat of primer scuff and hope paint.
Engine in and running.
Brakes were poor. so checked rear cylinders, peeled back the rubbers and dust fell out. Cylinders seized and corroded to the point where we had to guess which diameter bore they were.
New cylinders on and bled up, checking pedal for any fade and boom, the chassis brake pipe burst under pressure. Had to make new lines all around.
With brakes took it for a road test, wouldn't get up to power.
Vacuum advance in dizzy diaphragm holed.
New dizzy collected today. I wonder what's next...
Got home a few minutes early today, so was able to get the passenger side apart and get that axle joint changed out. So both front axles have new Moog super strength joints. I also have super strength joints to go in both driveshafts aswell.
Didn't get near as much done on the truck today as I had hoped because I had to put a new deck spindle, and blades on the mower so I could cut the hay.....
Swapped in a transmission cooler that's been sitting on my shelf for a while, about 4 years. The small one I'd had on it for a while wasn't keeping as cool as id like, even just commuting. It'd see 190-200 deg on a hot day easily and wouldnt cool down. This ones a 40k lb rated one, had to turn it vertical to fit. Runs 120-150 deg max now.
spent the last 2 days mowing... kept getting interrupted yesterday because of the rain... when i finished today i dropped some 2 stroke fuel on another fire ant hill...

Finally got around to installing the master cylinder and steering shaft Dustin gave me last month. Truck drives better. Now to fix the 100 other little things that bother me on it. Little things like fuel gauges and speedometer cables, radio and interior light. Oh and of course retrofit cruise on to it. And plan the interior out so I can get everything I need for that. However, my budget is non-existent at the moment so fingers crossed.
