I have to agree with Matt03Expy. My wheels are so much cleaner since I got the new pads in May. I don't have to wash them until it is time to wash the whole vehicle. Much nicer.
I also had my dealership install the new "low dust" pads for my 03' Exped. They did not work near as good as I had hoped and I was very disappointed. I have solved my dust problem by installing as set of KLEEN WHEELS which have worked extremely well for the last 15k miles with no rotor damage. I highly recommend them. take care
It's been awhile since I posted or read anything...I had the new "improved" brake pads installed as warranty in Feb of this year. The pads work great...very little to no dust...in otherwords normal.
About 2 months ago, my front end started to shimmy when applying the brakes. The shimmy became really bad braking between 40-50 mph. I brought to my local dealer and they would not touch or even look at it as warranty. I finally found some time and scheduled an appointment with the selling dealer today.
Well, didn't get the Expedition back today as the rotors are worn. I aksed how that could be since new rotors were installed with the new pads. I expressed concern about the hardness of the improved pads. He stated that rotors had plenty of "meat" left, but not to worry as they were going to replace it at no charge. I asked if I should be concerned about the new pads and he stated that the rotors were probably originally defect.
Does nayone have any experience on the new pads and the affect on the rotors? Ihave approx 8K miles onthe new pads and 16K miles total onthe vehicle...it's a shame..brand new vehicle and this will be the 4th brake job in less than a year..selling dealer had been outstanding..somewhat a relief..
In the first 12 months of ownership of my 03' XLT, I've had two sets of rotors with the second set already on their second machining. Bowditch Ford says this is perfectly normal for an SUV. Now who in their right mind is going to believe that???? My first set of rotors were warped from the factory and had to be machined after the first week. A month or so later the vibration (due to warpage) came back and the dealership but new rotors on. A few months after that the new "low dust" pads came out so the dealer put them on and machined the new rotors. A few months after that I started getting some major vibration while slowing down at highway speeds. The problem.........warped rotors. They machined them again and now I'm just waiting until I have to do it again. I love Fords ha ha!! Good luck man.

Hi, had my 03 Exp since 9/03. Just had to replace front brakes at 24K miles and rotors had to be replace too because they were too worn to turn. How did your last set of rotors do? I don't believe your situation or mine is normal.
Definitely not normal. Depends on driving conditions, but I've had my 03 since 5/03 and it's still on original tires and pads @ 69k miles! I drive a lot for work, but so far so good. So much for bad mouthin' the Conti tires, too.
I'm not familiar with the dust problem so forgive me. Does anyone know if there are ceramic brake pads available for the expedition? If so, and you find you must pay for your replacement pads, then this is the way to go. Ceramic pads are pratically dust free. I recently owned a Nissan Pathfinder that had the ceramic pads and I never noticed any accumulation of brake dust.
Just a thought.

Ford has updated brake pads that have minimal dust. My dealer ended up giving me the pads for free and I installed them myself. They helped out tremendously with the brake dust. They are expensive to purchase from the dealer that's why I cried like a little school girl to get my way.

It worked though.
Do you know how much they shouldv'e cost? Who makes them? And does anyone know an answer to Todd's question? What about ceramic pads?
The replacement low dust pads should cost around $230. Plus upto another $150 in parts depending on the build date of your truck. There is no identification on the pads as to who makes them.
I have a set right now that I need to put on whenever I have the time.
