Wow what a thread, I read the whole thing last night... now I want more, I can only imagine your nightmare, I am kind of jealous though, you have got to delve deep into your engine, I don't have the time or money to do the same. I, like you, make money with my truck and can't afford to have it down for that long. The clutch master just stopped working right in my Cummins and I am worried since it is my back up truck and my Ford has been acting up lately.
I will try and make it by there to get some pics. They were matched so closely, that I couldn't tell where the joint was. I remember that they definitely looked broken. Inside the joint (where the cap and rod touch each other) is kinda jagged, it looks like when you break a rock.
On another note, I just spent about an hour at harbor freight, sittin by the engine stands making a plan. I'm gonna get two on the cheap 750lb stands, cut em up, and make a stand that will allow me to mount it by the engine mount holes. To heck with the ghetto rigged crap. I'm hope I will be able to spin the engine without the crank thing. I'm gonna have the pipe inside another pipe thing, on both sides. What do you all think???
Well guys, PMM finished the deal,,,, I got the money back. Sux to lose all the time I did, but at least they gave the refund. It was a tough ride,,, I'm glad they followed through and didn't mess me around. I got the refund before they said I would also.
I honestly told myself that I would bash them as soon as I get the money back,,,, but after thinking bout it, they are working, and trying to make a living, just like us. I'm sure that the experience with me had PMM reevaluating their sales process. I would bet that the next person that calls and is specific about what that customer wants,,,, I bet they make sure to put in what is asked for. When I saw them raise the heads off, kinda wish I would've ordered a shortblock. Matt did tell me they would cover the water passages on the front cover also before painting on any future builds. Don't get me wrong,,,, I'm pissed off, I'm weeks behind where I should be, but it's better than being pissed on huh.
I've got bad news on building the stand,,,, if I take the block outta the shop,,, it will throw off the schedule. It's in the washer now. I'm considering getting most of it done, then finishing the welds when the engine is done. Dunno what I'm gonna do.
It definitely makes me feel like I got my money's worth. Btw,,, I thought they would send either 20, or 18 dowel hg's,,,, I got both!!!!! Guess I've got a set of 18mm's for sale also,,, when the job is done tho. Unless red starts acting up... She's only got bolts in her,, and has for over 240k!!!! I can't believe their holding.
Is there anything to be gained if I get my lifters and rockers and anything else soaking???? And is there anything I could soak them in better than oil???

Lifters yes, rockers no. The longer the lifters soak the more air they get rid of. I personally wouldn't want oil on anything but the contact points between valve, rocker, and push rod until I buttoned it up to keep dust/dirt collection to a very minimum.
