The bottom end has never been an issue on a 6.0 AFAIK. I've only seen a couple of trucks with catstrophic failures in that area and they had seen some really high RPM's.
I JUST got off the phone with ARP and they only have head studs
at this point in time for the 6.0L. They may have rod bolts this
next year and bed blots later. He was not sure on the time frame.

P.S. My back-up PC just crapped it little brains out. The MAC is still going strong.
Knowing what you know now about how the purchase of the 2nd engine went and what all is involved in overhauling your original one would you go the same route if you had to do this over?
Would you concentrate on trying to rebuild your own locally / yourself?
or
Would you still try for a 2nd engine (just maybe from a different supplier like Jasper or Ford)?
My garage smells like nasty oil. I had to do e brake pads n dust shields on the 04 today... They were rusted out!!!! I started a thread on it in the super duty forum, but haven't got to upload everything yet. I'm ordering all the parts tomorrow to finish the build.
Has anyone, or does anyone know if ford sells a standard size piston overhaul kit??? I looked last night til I fell asleep, literally.
I would wait a bit on the pistons because you don't
know what the bore looks like as far as taper goes. The max cylinder taper is 0.003" or 0.076 mm
The max out of round is 0.002" or 0.05 mm
Now you can do this one of two ways.
Bore to the first over size or sleeve it. Putting a
sleeve in is not the best way to do things and with a
diesel I am not sure if it even a good idea. But lets not
get ahead of ourselves. Just see what you have first.
As you can see I did get the PC to limp back to life
Still crashes every time I try to install some of the drivers
I'm taking the block to the shop tomorrow. I'm gonna ask him to spec the cylinders first thing. I have the 10 over part number, but in case they are good, I'd like to order the std pistons. I also gotta find out if I get the 10 over kit, does that mean the crank, cam, n rod bearings are all also 10 over, I'm wanting to have it ordered tomorrow. The overhaul kit comes with valve guides, it would be nice to have them used, rather than paying for them twice (the engine guy has the heads now and could do them anytime). If he does them before I get the kit, then he will get them, and I will have a whole set,,, extra.
Not sure I wanna buy from a site that has the vr kits anywhere on it. I can't stand that those kits even exist, If enough of us, never buy them, maybe they will cease to exist.

I understand the VR issue I was just pointing out that a STD can be found.
You should be able to get the kit in any configuration that is needed.
I would also replace the valve springs even if you re-use the valves.
I'm hoping to reuse the rods. Them there r expensive. We will see, hope they aren't bent.
I got ya Sean, I have seen that ford sells the std pistons, but I can't find the overhaul kit anywhere. I haven't priced the contents of the overhaul kit separately. I could get std then. It would have to be cheaper in the kit tho.

I would be more worried about the 582k miles that were on them more than anything, i would hate to go through all that work and have a rod fail and destroy all that you have done. Of course i dont know if rods with that many miles are a concern or what the extra expense would be, was just a thought.

I'm all ears on this issue. Anyone else have some input???
