Thx mustang,,,, I've watched that before, and again just now. I wonder if there'd be an issue if I just have the engine shop tighten the bed plate for transit to the house, then me remove it and add the sealant? I don't want to take a chance on that seal. I'm heading out of town today and won't be back until the engine is done. I'm gonna email them now.

Anthony,
Do you plan on having them install the pistons and the crank?
If you do then I would let then also install the seal.In not then
I would put the bed plate on some lint free shop rags (you know the blue ones)
and set it in a box so the seal surface does not get scratched.
Also when they do the cam bearings they will need the cam.
You should just give then the cam break-in lube and the hold down
blots and just have them install it. Once it's it there in no sense in pulling it back
out and nicking one of the lobes. So they will also need the torque for the bolts.

The shop is short blocking it (cam, crank, rods, pistons, bed plate).I just want the permatex and the sealant in there. I'm Rollin east right now, and hoping I remembered to give them the piston cooling jets.... I'm stressed!!!! What makes this story better,,,,, I'm prob gonna pull big reds engine when this is done and reseal and put studs in her. She leaks oil. No machine work tho,,, but she will get a set of lifters tho. I should be able to do that n bout 3 days. We will c.

Is the machine shop going to plastigage the crankshaft and rod bearings. That is the only way I know of to get the correct tolerances. There may be other ways but that is how I have always done it on the motors I have built.

If your going to do the lifters you need to do the cam. It has to do
with the camshaft wear patterns. This is the same reason you always
put the same lifter back in the same hole.
On the cooling jets just wait till they open on Monday and give then a call
and ask. That way you won't have to worry for miles on miles.

A micrometer and dial bore gauge (and a skilled pair of hands) are more accurate than plastigauge. With the manual gauges it's common practice to measure in multiple places around the diameter, the plastigauge measures only where you put it. You are more likely to find distorted main caps for example when using the old school method.

I'm hoping they will use the plastigages. I don't want to tell them how to do their jobs,,, no more than I already have,, lol. That's what cheezit was talking about huh??? The sealant will change the gaps. The manual says to torque the bed plate with the plastigages, then remove and check tolerances. Here are some pics I sent to the machine shop

Thx srmaster tech btw.

On the lifter thing in red,,, you think even tho there is no squeaking or no obvious lifter issues,,, the cam still need done??? That's not gonna happen then. I will just do the bed plate, crank seals n stuff, n studs then.

10-4. I should have added many engines have been put together after checking with plastigauge and it works well. I was just splitting hairs and pointing out there are other ways to check tolerances.

100% with Rusty on that. It must be that A&P training.
On a auto/truck engine I use both too. Plastigauge as a
backup and to recheck things just before you button it up
Anthony you know that they have a Wifi hotspot adaptor
that you can stick in your truck. Or just make him use
Wifi when he wants to watch Youtube. Just need to put a
access point at the house or be near one when out.
My sister has the same problem with my niece and surprise
data billing. Now She keeps an eye on things and is only allowed
to download when at home. Really cuts into her game playing.
She turned 9 this last Sep and has learned the value of a Gb.
Now if she would quit clicking on every thing that pops onto
the windows screen. I spent 4 days cleaning and saving data
because of the last crash.
