Oh yea you'll want to buy a ball joint tool set and ball joints with a lifetime warranty and get good at replacing them. haha. And the front axle ujoints. You'll learn to despise that full time front end if you put a bunch of miles on it. Oh and check the oil haha they tend to burn oil and dry up if you don't keep and eye on it......ok we should prob stop turning Anthony's thread into a Dodge swap meet. haha

A few questions though, when you took a pic of the head gasket on the crate motor you bought, was that a VR in a circle?

You ended up sending the motor back, why?

So basically you're rebuilding your origanal motor and throwing it back into the truck?

I am VERY impressed over all, reps for ya!
It was Victor Reinz head gasket's. Ironically, they are stamped with the exact part numbers that ford uses. PMM (the remaned engine builder/seller) tried explaining to us, that these WERE NOT the black onyx gasket's, but that they were indeed OEM. There were some other issues (turned out not to be issues) and PMM bought the Remanned engine back. Look for the video, of PMM's tear down. Turn's out we didn't want to hear it........But PMM proved it.
PMM, turned out to nail everything "WE" didn't believe, and they built what looked like an excellent product.
If you reread this thread from around page 31 to here, you would see that PMM is a pretty stand up engine builder.

Adam, they had the same stamping number in the rocker box. The blue gaskets had an international part number. The part number was down on the bottom of the head.

I don't understand, Chris?
At about 7:50 in the video, it show's both head gasket's (The OEM, and the VR, side by side) and the numbers match.

So they were V.R. headgaskets? I am confused as to why that would be stamped there if they weren't....

And strokin83 I would agree! LOL

Just because the numbers match does not mean that is OEM.
The only way to really KNOW is to buy it your self from
Ford or Navistar. Everyone should that some manufactures
have no problem with putting OEM like markings on some thing
to make you THINK that you are getting the real thing. When
in fact it is not. Just look at the Chinese knock-off market.

Victor reinz is a Dana company, Dana owns Moele or mahle or whoever makes the gaskets for ford/international, the gaskets in question, are the same as oem, but a different color.
Allegedly the new ford gaskets will look the exact same as soon as the blue ones are gone.
that is the way I understand it.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
I am now confused too.

Yes the gaskets were victor reinz. Just not the black onyx ones that fail.

So, Mr. Youngblood. What is the status of your shopping list and build? I as a Ford dealer tech wrenching for twenty years and counting rarely get too excited over doing any job, and I'm a little interested as to how your build is going. I have to admit, that Youtube video from those guys was a little interesting to say the least. I thought it was neat to hear the way they speak with that heavy Southern drawl. I guess that interacting with guys all over the globe makes us oblivious to the different ways we speak because we're only reading other words typed as opposed to hearing words spoken. Nonetheless, I am very curious. As far as spending money goes, I just dumped a couple Gs on my own laptop and Ford's new VCM II of my own to use, as opposed to having to wait for other guys in our shop.

Very cool on the ids purchase,,, How many of you guys would like to have one of those at your disposal???? Would we sleep with it under our pillow,???? Lol. Ok, well, I'm waiting on parts,,,, I think I have everything on the list and Tousley is supposed to call when they get it all in. PB (performance blocks) are in possession of my engine pieces, The plan is they will polish the crank, bore to 10 over, do the valve job and shortblock it with all tousleys parts. I ordered everything,,, all valves, keepers, washers, springs, cam bearings, front cover, ect, ect. Performance Blocks did tell me it could be weeks!!???!!!??? Oh, I hope not. My engine was supposed to be on the table for Monday,,, heads at least. Hope they don't end up waiting on the parts,,,, Tousley hasn't called yet. It's gonna be about a $3700 ticket. Can't wait to get it all in. My cam is supposed to be delivered to Delta Camshaft on mon. They are supposed to make it new again. They have some nice videos on their website. I'm on I70 right now about 150 mi west of the CO line headed home.

I'm at work,,, finally,,, But when it rains,,, u guys know. Check out what happened last night:::
