nope no 4x4 they just bog down ( I didn't try to break anything I could tell it was beyond the trucks capability) , beds are loaded so traction wasn't an issue and limited slip rear and it We pulling it with a chain so it would load the rear even more do to the angle
the diesels didn't need low or 4 to do it
Absurd? It was just a question with some real world facts
I stand corrected! Just needed that much imfo for it to be relevant. I understand not breakin somthin, when it is easier to get somethin else that you know will do the job better.
Still I am betting the V10 is more than up to the job!
Anyway, how's this. I go skiing in the dead of winter, it's 10 below and I come back to the truck, start it and go home.
The diesels? hmm maybe it'll go maybe not.
Or I'm on a long highway trip, and I can't find a diesel station?
(That has happened)
The point was, in 99.9% of situations, the v10 is more than capable
And 99.9% of the time the psd is more than capable, each has it's draw backs.
each has it's upside.
I just recently bought this v10.
In my shopping, the options were.
5.4 Gas
6.8 Gas
low mileage 7.3
low mileage 12v cummins
low mileage 24v cummins.
2007 6.0
I shopped, and found this one. 2006 v10 90k miles 4x4 with no rust for $7000 plus tax.
It was the best all around deal.
For diesel the 12v is the superior engine anyway.
the best truck is a 2005+ ford with a 12v cummins.
Because we can't get that, we have to make choices, I made mine, we all did.
There are trade offs for each.
My PSD has reliably started on several occasions at -20*f, I never worry about it not starting. It was 6*f this morning and it started right up, not plugged in. The only time I plugg in is when I know I have to take my kids somewhere before work. No sense in letting it Idle for another 10 minutes!<!-- / message -->

So very true I have been stuck in wet grass. If you dont have traction your not moving anywhere.
But you v-10 guys can keep em. Ill take my extra HP and TQ plus the 17ish MPG I make. Even if I pay 15-20 cents more a Gallon then Reg. Unleaded. CPS no problem takes 5 mins to change.
and that also had nothing to do with my question lol
I am sorry. What was your Question? Does this answer it? I have a cousin with a duramax, another with an 8.1 chevy gasser, another cousin with a 3/4ton chevy 350, My best friend a V10 and My powerstroke, None of us have found anything we couldnt tow. Or if one couldnt tow it neither could the others! Keep in mind the 350 may have needed low range, but he could move it! (full corn crib on skids). But we find that traction is the deciding factor 100% of the time. (trucks usually not loaded down) So I still think that you coulda moved it WITH A V10 or a 8.1chevy, and a diesel wasnt neccesary! Point still being the Ford 5000 tractor never even grunted nor spun, It is the proper tool for the job!

I believe you I had a 6.2 that would start in REALLY cold, with some ether and glowplugs disconnected.
At the auction they were trying to get a 6.0 (2004) and they must have emptied a whole can of ether. Basically it ran completely on the spray for 30-40 sec, then it was chugging on about 5 or 6 cyl's for another min. Talk about "rollin coal" You should have seen the cloud
ok since you asked
I have a boat thats 26 foot long and about 7k plus
I sold my 6.0 gasser because it just had a bad time on hills
I mean redlined and doing 40mph
finally the transmission started to make a tinging noise under load so I sold it
it was an 05 2500hd and great around town but I wanted to go to Powell etc so I just figured Diesel
I bought My PSD 2 years ago when the economy took a crap the week after lol anyway I haven't had a chance to tow my boat
it seems like the diesel and it's lower rpm's would be less stress on the transmission ? and the less rpm's less stressful on me ?
anyway I guess I just need to try it out and see
I do know the maintanance on the PSD is $$ between oil changes at $100 fuel filters $100 but the rest is the same PM as the v10 I think

Buy your fuel filters and oil filters online (diesel filters online I think). Fuel filters are 37$ for racor (make motorcraft filters) and oil filter is 17$ I think. Your truck will do way better towing than your old gasser did. Just cause your not turning 5500rpm doesnt neccesarily mean you aint bein hard on the tranny. Remember you are making more horsepower and torque, just lower rpm.
