My 7.3 has a manual with the same gear ratios as my 5.4 and turns half the rpms. The 7.3 makes peak tq at 2,000 rpm, not 1,600 and the 5.4 makes peak tq at 2,500 rpm and not 3,800. You also have to remember that even if it had an automatic (which it doesn't), the tc is only multiplying the tq for a very short period of time. It doesn't multiply it all the way through the entire gear. By the time my 5.4 hits 4,500 rpm (303 tq) my 7.3 has shifted to 2nd and is at about 2,000 rpm (425 tq with a 2.93 ratio). Those numbers are 1727 for the 5.4 and 1245 for the 7.3. That is why I said that as soon as my 7.3 shifts to 2nd the 5.4 runs it down and passes it in a hurry.
Josh I've looked all day and can't find one single 5.4l engine data sheet that specs the 5.4l peaking torque @2500 rpms. They all say 3750 or 3800 rpm. I got the 7.3l's peak torque from the international powerstroke website. Either they misquoted their own spec or that spec isn't for your year. I know the toque converter isn't locked 100% of the time, but it is when it counts. Or I'll say it should.

That isn't even a questions if you have the opportunity to get a psd do it no questions asked.
If I wanted a Powerstroke, I would be driving one.
But I don't.

In that case it will. Better rear end gears and higher revving means it puts more torque to the ground at speed when you combine them with the higher HP.
Give a 3V a 4R100 and 3.73s and its not going to out pull a 6.0.
With the 4.10s and Torqueshift that came in the 05+ trucks, it will.
12 HP will not make up for a crappy tranny though.
The world isn't flat, and I'm carrying on. I like this thread, it's the equivalent of a "What oil/tire thread" on a motorcycle board.
I bought my V10 for a simple reason. It (like the two trucks before it) are "third" vehicles, not a daily driver. As a result, it doesn't get driven much, and rarely unless it's pulling something.
It's fuel consumption sitting in the driveway is virtually identical to a PSD sitting there. What is different, is that the V10 only costs more when I'm driving it. The PSD was going to cost more at purchase, and based on my limited mileage I'd have to keep the truck something ridiculous like 20 years to break even.
I really wanted a PowerStroke, but simply couldn't justify it based on my annual mileage.
