Josh you know I'm on the same page. I just don't see the numbers brother. Granted I don't know what tranny you have in your 97. If it had the 4r100 the with the tq converter its 1st gear is 5.2x 425 which is 2210 lbs @1600rpm Your 5.4's first gear is 5.7x 350 which is 1995 lbs at ?3800rpm? Now who has 1st gear at vantage? Now you step up to a 6.0's power rateings= no prayer. I know with a stick you wanna hold the power band. I can shift my tranny up manually.

IMO having owned all three an 03 CC LB 4x4 w/5.4, 96 f350 CC LB 4x4 PSD and now an O3 F250 CC SB 4x4 V10. It all depends on what you can afford, what you are going to do with it, where you are running with it and mostly personal preference. Having had the 5.4 in a 3/4ton truck,T Ford must have had their head up their ars to think that was even logical(gutless wonder). My 96 PSD would take the 03 anytime anywhere bonestock especailly loaded hands down no comparison and the Psd had 329000 miles on it. Now I have 2 V10s because I can't jUstify the added expenence of purchasing or operating a Psd in any form or category of operation(pulling, mileage etc). I don't pull often enough to warrant the added expense of the diesel or drive enough miles to ever come close to paying for the addedcosts of maintanence(All done myself). So really when I first saw this thread it was like idiology in politics- you will never convince the opponent that yours is the better choice. This thread should be CLOSED!!!!!!!!!!!

Put 1200 miles last weekend driving my diesel sedan. I like the speed and invested good money in Valentine One detector, but with those trigger activated radars our cops getting lately I am becoming extra careful. So I always drive below 80 in 70mph zones waiting for somebody doing over 80, preferably 90 mph to have them as a shield. Got couple of guys like that driving those V10 fancy trucks. The problem was -that after following them for 1 to 2 hr they pulled over to gas station, while my diesel sedan makes 550 miles on 20 gallons tank at those speeds.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Maybe you should back away from this thread for a few days, and maybe we'll all do the same thing.
ALL of those were solicited replies, and 90% of them were to Bill and dealt with his claim of his V10's ability to run at WOT all day. Take a look at the 3 posts made since you wrote the above. All over the board...One dealing with the hp/tq of the 5.4, one saying he owned all 3 along with a request to close the thread, and another about a radar detector and mileage in a diesel sedan.

Face it, you've got a personal problem with me. Feel free to ban me. Learn some fairness afterward, because you saying I need to back off the thread is a pretty pathetic request considering that thread has gone all over the place constantly.

Have a good one Josh, Exile, Bill, 2001400ex, Monster Baby, and any others I've chatted with in the past. Krewat wins, (in his own mind) I'm outta' here.

Darn, we all are missing something. I was out for 2 days and missed some fun???
Than I twisted my last reply more than intended. It wasn't about the speed and radar detectors. Try to read between the lines

Now don't go bringing pertinent real world experience in here. That just won't do. Stick to calculators and arm-chair engineering.

Fat chance of that happening. This thread progressed past any real world relevance after about the first page or so, if that. It exists now only to ensure it's own continuance while allowing some hard heads from both sides the opportunity to do some chest pounding all in the pursuit of the real goal, which is to see just how long this asinine discussion can be nursed along in the hopes of setting some sort of silly record.

I figure that about covers it...

Oooooo! I love a good fairly tale at bedtime! You should start all your posts with, "Once upon a time..." I seriously doubt ANYTHING in that post was factual.

Which part is so unbelievable? exaggerated maybe. I'm kinda surprised that he didn't get better mileage. 550 / 20 = 27.5. Thats not unheard of out of a diesel sedan, actually kinda low, IMO. 1 to 2 hours of following a v10 at speeds above 80 is probably around 6 - 8mpgs at best. 8mpg x 36 gallons (big tank) = 288 miles / 80 = 3.6 hours 324 / 90 = 3.2 hours 6mpg x 36 gallons = 216 miles / 90 mph = 2.4 hours and that's to 'side of the road' empty.

I disagree with you. The 5.4 is a fine engine in a sd. I just don't like it for heavy hauling. This thread shouldn't be closed. In the big wide world lots and lots of trucks are sold based on color, trim, engine trend, or some slick commerical seen durning the game. This thread offers a perspective to concider in chosing a truck. There's lots of info lines in these pages. Lots of friend ships have been built in this debate. There's a lot of sound ideas on this thread. You know if you can't see the sanity in the madness you can walk away.

I'm not backing off at all.

Off topic, but how do you like the V1?

I have been wanting to get one, but its hard to justify the money when my $50 radio shack detector works so well.

Only time its let me down was laser, and the V1 is not going to save me from that either.

Radar detectors are only good for lazy troopers. And that good is marginal at best. I stopped buying them and employ a strategic speeding technique. lol

When they leave there radar on, I can pick them up 1/2 a mile away.
With some effort and some discretion, you can beat the good ones too.

We are not talking about getting away after they clock us speeding. Were talking about not getting caught speeding in the first place.

Its not necessarily that they left them on it just that they are shooting when you pick it up. The radar is on but you wont pick it up unless they are shooting.

The technical scenario would be a cop is hidden is watching traffic sees someone he is suspecting of speeding visually. Estimates the speed in his head, shoots the radar at you. then your radar detector goes off saying "OHH SHAT SLOW DOWN!!" but its to late he already has you.

Now for the Crazy part! Cop is sitting there visually see yous speeding. As he estimates your speed in his head he just pulls out and tickets you for speeding. Because the Radar is just a tool to verify to him your speed. not a requirement in most if not all states.

I was riding shotgun with a Police officer one day and he let me play with his radar. It was rather funny to see traffic moving in the mirror and shoot the radar backwards and watch how many peoples break lights turn on!
