Funny how the old 7.3 could handle 60k lbs but it's not capable of powering a van sized rv.....
Not everybody wants to pay an extra $8K for a diesel or smell the fumes through the engine cowl inside their RV. These are also the people that carry murses.
It takes a special man to get that diesel. He also usually has a wallet instead of a murse too.
The V10 has a durability rating of 400,000 miles, even the highly touted new 6.7 Ford diesel only has a 250,000 mile durability rating.
I'll be honest with you, I like both the v10 and the psd, but I don't have a clue where they get these durability testing numbers. Sometimes I think they just pull them out of their **** like they do the factory tow ratings that can increase 3k lbs from one year to the next even though nothing on the truck changed.
The 6.7 is durability tested to 250k, but that doesn't mean it won't last longer than that. I don't have a clue what my 7.3 is tested for, but it has over 215k abusive miles on it and it runs like brand new. If it doesn't make it more than 250k miles I will videotape me running it through the crusher and post it on here for everyone to see.
I just read an article the other day about the new 6 speed auto and how they durability tested it. They said it was 60% stronger than the previous torqueshift and was durability tested to 250k miles(how many torqueshift guys have gotten more than 250k out of theirs?). How they tested it was to hook it to an engine and let it run 24/7 until it hit the equivalent of 250k miles. No shifting, no sudden acceleration, no nothing. Just let it cruise at one set speed around the clock. I don't know of ANY transmission (or clutch) that will fail under those kinds of circumstances......

You probably just added at least 30 pages to the debate with that one comment

Oh what the heck, I'll go ahead and take the v10 side on this one.
The reason v10 owners carry a murse is because they need something bigger than a wallet to carry around all that extra cash they saved by not buying the diesel
Oh man, that felt wrong taking "their" side........ I say they need a murse to carry around all their gas money because a wallet just won't hold that much cash
V10 has cheap rebuild price. Oh Boy! It had better you start hauling a trailer with a real load and your gonna need a cheap rebuild expense. I'm happy that the V10 is suited for RVs, you won't see many in a real work truck that pulls trailers.
Time to grow up people - yeah, time for you to buy a diesel
(couldn't pass that up)
Kind of quick on the trigger to tell people to stop talking about the v10's manliness..... 20 straight pages of calling the 6.0 every name under the sun, not studly enough to pull a trailer, POS, diesel guys being absent for a few days because we were in the shop getting warranty work done, etc. But make one joking comment about the v10 not being "studly" and look who shows up......

DO you have any direct experience with the V10 holding up to loads?

That wasn't directed at anyone in particular, both sides need to settle down a bit

Just seems odd that we had page after page(over a span of days) of v10 guys ribbing the psd guys and no one gets told to settle down, but about 2 hours after Brian's v10 murse comment we get told to grow up and settle down..... As far as I know no one is mad or needs to settle down, we are just giving each other a hard time.
Glad you asked. A neighbor & good friend of mine/dad had a V10 in a F350. We used the truck for hauling the gooseneck for about two weeks while my dad was looking for his current truck. His '95 F350 with a 460 had 260,000 miles on it and was sold to another neighbor as strictly a farm truck. My dad liked the 460, but likes the powerstroke even better.
alright i'm bored, so i'll chime in. the v10 is still in production vehicle right now, i heard it's getting discontinued. the last 7.3 was in what? 2003? diesel guys ram the 7.3 down your throat, but ignore the fact that the last 2 diesel options you had to choose from are both less qualified in the reliability category, and have been phased out rather quickly. the v10 had one big change that i am aware of in it's production run, 3 valve heads. 7.3psd was in trucks from 1994.5-2003. v10 1997-(in vans i think, could be wrong)present. i havent owned either. but i have personal experience with v10 with 265,xxx on it and it runs great, so good in fact the tranny is shot from being worked too hard, so it's getting a new one. try to get a 6.0 or 6.4 to 265,000 with out taking several trips to the dealer, or pulling your cab off. my good friend quit working as a ford mechanic because of the small amount of time alloted by dealerships for these extensive repairs to be completed in. their payscale is based on hours allowed for a given job, so just think about all those dealer mechs. rushing to fix your complex problems so they don't have to work for free.now add to that the stress of seeing more trucks pulling in everyday with the same problems day after day.
Well the 7.3 diesel is brought up by a lot of people because it is a incredibly reliable truck that will hold its own towing most anything. Just curious, what have you used your V10 for?
