I know of a V10 not far from me with over 1 MILLION miles without ever having the valve covers removed. And this is not the 5.4 in Ohio, this one is in IL.
Wow pappy is an angry thing. The V10 doesn't have problems. Right. All motors have problems. The V10 had issues with stripping spark plug threads (that may or may not have ejected said plugs). I feel the majority of the 6.0's with head gasket issues were due to owners that added tuners to their rigs. I know that some people got motors that constantly had problems but you get those in all makes and models same as you get the ones that last for hundreds of thousands of miles.
Heck, an angry Pap for an Angrywasp.....what's the dif?? The spark plug problem was from 1999 to 2001, after that no more problems. I say again, look at the TSB's for the 7.3, the 6.0 leaker and the 6.4, and you'll be reading for a month 24/7. The 6 leaker had many, many issues not from any programmer. The programmers just asserbated(no pun) their problems. The 7.3 was/is the best diesel Ford has produced, but it isn't without fault either, as I had 2, a 1997 and a 2002, and they were both great trucks. BUT, I still had issues that lasted the 2-3 years that I owned them and I was constantly doing a mod that "made it run better", it most of the mods I did, did make it run better. That being said, my 2008 V-10 runs better than both of my past 7.3's and I can't remember EVER seeing a V-10 on the side of the road. A few 7.3's and ALOT of 6 leakers(the worst thing that has ever happened to Ford truck sales), and at any dealer today, you will see at least 1 6.4 with the cab lifted and somebody working on the diesel engine. Will you buy a 6.4 after the warranty runs out at 100k knowing that ANYTHING you do to that engine, including glow plug replacement, will require the cab being lifted?? Want to do that at home on the weekend??
So what if I get a few miles to the gallon less than a diesel. So what if my oil changes cost me $19.95 at Quicklube. So what if my fuel filter costs $8.00 at Walmart. So what if my fuel costs anywhere from $0.15-50 less than diesel and I don't have to worry about water or crap in the fuel. So what when at 150-200k, I can rebuild my V-10 for 1/3 or less the cost of a diesel rebuild. Guess what.....I don't care. I'll take my old V-10 chug any day. For the diesel Dudes....been there done that, and I'll take my V-10 any day of the week.
Yeah, a 460 is very fuel efficient haven't you heard. Just another point to take a diesel over gas- Fuel Mileage. Hey, 460 & V10 guys I got a question. How many gas stations do you guys own just to put your almighty gasser down the road?
I get 15 babying it on the highway and 12 around town. I can't imagine the V10 would be much worse..
The v10 vs psd thread is now the 460/v10 vs IDI/PSD thread.
pappy19, you used to be on oil burners right?
I might be thinking of someone else, but I think I read an anti-V10 thread were some guy claimed to have blown up 3 V10s towing and you called BS on him.
A friend of mine has an 2006 f550 with 4.88 gears and he pulls a 39 ft fifth wheel with a jeep towing behind that. Yes I know its illegal. We both stopped at a Cat scale and he weighed in at 32,500. Can a V10 pull that up a 20 mile long hill in 110 degree weather and do it over and over again? Unlikely.

Are you the same guy?
Could be. I had a thing with some dude from Montana for a while and he claimed he was hauling hay or whatever and his boss kept buying V-10's and he hated them. But even if he was right, he and his boss were definately in the minority on V-10 issues as compaired to any diesel engines, not including O&M costs. He finally quit responding.
my truck burns the fuel i "waste", instead of blowing out my tailpipe to impress kids at your local highschool
For the record, my truck is stock and doesn't "waste" fuel by blowing smoke. Nor am I in high school. I just thought it was funny that a 460 guy was ragging on people for wasting fuel (in case you didn't notice, I put a smiley face there to show that I was just messing with you). The 460 I had was lucky to get 10 mpg going down hill, with a tail wind and a chain hooked to the truck in front of me.

Yes it can. Class C and Class A RV's do it all day long and they never puke like the 6 leakers do. Not only that, the V-10 can start in -50 below with no plug-in and no fuel gell problems to boot!!

Pap
Your the guy I was thinking of then.
Welcome to FTE.

The V10 is rated for 33,000 from Ford and will pull that load anywhere.

You see only smaller Class A's with v-10's. The larger ones are all diesel pushers. Those class A's on a v-10 chassis probably weigh about as much as the 39 ft toyhauler with the slides, and that's not including the 120 gallons of water and all the quads inside. That still leaves the 10,000 lb truck and the jeep.
