The only Reason I don't have a Diesel is they love the shop and are to expensive to repair. That Being said the 7.3 was another story. I would love to have a 7.3.
Yes the V10 does drink heavy on the go go juice. I will be watching the 6.7 to see if they hold up. But my V10 does tow my 10k pound trailer just fine and some times, I beat the diesel up the hill.
I'll raise the B.S. flag on that one. Bill was the ONLY one to make the towing statement. Go look in nearly every V10 towing/mpg/vs. thread and find many, many instances of "should have bought a psd" or "is not a diesel" or some B.S. to that effect. You guys have the soot in your eyes and continue to blow smoke up everyones a$$es 90% of the time. You must remember, about 50% of us gas owners went there because of a diesel. Personally, I wont ever look to Ford diesel again. Failure after failure you can expect with them. I have friends with dodges with over 400k on the clock and mine couldn't make it to 38k without several engine changes.
Arrogant aren't we?? How about the F650 that come standard with the 6.8L? Think that might be a problem? Hell, a PSD isn't even available in that truck, only 6.7L Cummins. One might say that the PSD might be "Medium duty" or even "Light duty" then????? Who knows........
No Bill isn't the only one. If you want to brang other threads in this I just don't how you can say that. Lots of gasers has said they can out pull a psd.
Arrogant? You think I'm arrogant. You think I could keep up with a F650 at highway speeds? Really I want to hear this one.
I framed houses for many yrs. I prefer a 32 oz hammer. I can out drive nails of most framers swinging 22, 24, 28, ozs hammers. I can keep up with most driving w/ 28 or 32oz hammers. Arrogant aint I? Nope. I know my tool. Most nail drivers hold their hammer an inch or more above the end of the handle. "This is the 1st sign the hammer is to heavy for them" I hold my hammer w/ the end about center of my closed palm. I put all the enegry available to the nail head.
Same w/ my truck. I know how to drive it. I'm gonna be right there with ya.

I don't doubt any of this. Are you and the diesel starting from a stop at the bottom of the hill? Does he know your trying to get there before him? My buddy haveing an 07 6.8 and me a 6.0 and him helping me out haul hay has had us side by side a lot on the highway. He drives his yruck way different than I do. I.e hitting hills he starts slowing down before I do. Depending on the hill I might just slow down a few miles an hour or if its big enough hill to really slow me down I add enough fuel to keep my speed. My buddy trys to hit the pedal before he slows down. He wants to gain speed going uphill.
So if you where coming up on me then oh yea you just might get the hill before me. If we decide to see who can get there 1st that just might not be the case. If you do it won't be worth bragging about.
This is the reason I choose a diesel over the v 10 is the diesel is more economical for me. Here is what i mean,
Average Fuel Prices Per Year:
gas diesel
2007 2.796 2.942
2008 3.246 3.814
2009 2.353 2.473
2010 2.782 2.993
Driving 40000 miles per year with the v 10 getting 11 mpg and the diesel getting 15 mpg. [ i got these numbers from my experience with both]
Cost per year
gas diesel
2007 10166.25 7846.31
2008 11802.46 10171.94
2009 8555.51 6595.49
2010 10115.35 7982.33
total 40639.57 32596.07
Now thats a difference of 8043.50 in savings by owning the diesel opposed to the v 10.
Alright lets say its time to trade at 160,000 miles, same truck, same options just different motors.
V 10 truck's trade in value at kbb 12675
Diesel trucks's trade value at kbb 16550.
Thats an increase of 3875 for the diesel. So yea it costs more to buy up front but the diesel saved me 8043.50 in fuel plus will yield me 3875 more in trade in value. [ the fuel prices were pulled from annual national averages for 87 octane and ulsd diesel. The mileage from my truck and my friends v 10. Both trucks see about same towing and just driving time.]

You have forgotten something. You have to give the gassers some of that
Fuel savings back. You have to subtract the difference in or higher maintance cost.
well i figured that after i posted that. changing oil in the v 10 at 5000 miles at 30 bucks a pop comes out to 960 for 4 yrs. chaging the diesel at 7500 miles at 70 bucks a pop comes out to 1540 for 4 yrs. (those prices come from o reillys site using motorcraft oil in quarts and their brand filters.) plus you can add about another 440 for the diesel's fuel filters and i don't know about the v 10's fuel filters
You are right! The key to the 7.3L success was simplicity, along with top notch technology (at the time, and still is very capable) Although todays Common rail injection is better, it will never compare reliability wise because of the complexity of these newer engines. Long live the 7.3L!!!!!!
