crazy, i wasn't directing that at you, i just don't get the smoke blowing thing, thats why i said trying to impress h/s kids. cause they are the only ones that would think thats cool
I have spent my working life around diesel powered heavy equipment..........just the smell of diesel exhaust sickens me now, not to mention the noise.........I vote V-10 just on that premise!
A friend of mine has an 2006 f550 with 4.88 gears and he pulls a 39 ft fifth wheel with a jeep towing behind that. Yes I know its illegal. We both stopped at a Cat scale and he weighed in at 32,500. Can a V10 pull that up a 20 mile long hill in 110 degree weather and do it over and over again? Unlikely.
I don't think the v10 would have any trouble with that load at all, especially in that set up. I used to gross almost 23k up a 10 mile climb that varied between 8-10% with a 5.4 with 4.10 gears with zero problems, so I don't see a v10 with 4.88 gears struggling with another 10k lbs.
You see only smaller Class A's with v-10's. The larger ones are all diesel pushers. Those class A's on a v-10 chassis probably weigh about as much as the 39 ft toyhauler with the slides, and that's not including the 120 gallons of water and all the quads inside. That still leaves the 10,000 lb truck and the jeep.
that's true, the diesel engines are all Cummins or Cat diesels and not pickup diesel engines. They are the only diesels that can out pull a V-10. You never see a Ford diesel engine in a Class A or C RV and you will never see a pickup size Cummins or Issuzu diesel in one either. They can't take the punishment. Only a V-10 is studly enough to take on that chore.

That's funny. I guess 450 lb/ft of torque at 4500 rpm IS better than 570 at 2000. Who knew?

The 6.7 isn't out yet so how can a Ford diesel be in any RV's? I have never researched diesel RV engines but I do have a friend with a Super C that has a Duramax in it and another friend with a normal class C with a 6.0.
I have to admit, now that you mention it, I did see a few Chebby diesels and Allison's on a Class C the other day. I stand corrected. Can't say about the new 6.7 Ford diesel as the industry wiil be waiting to see how many TSB's they have in the first 2 years. Since it took the Chebby diesel to go 8 years before it made it to the RV motor homes, we'll just have to see how long it takes the Ford diesel to make it there. I have the same doubts with the new Ford V-8 as I don't think it will tow like the V-10, IMHO. I'll have to be proven wrong.
I see you have the deadly 2003 6 leaker. Man you are one brave dude. How many miles do you have on your engine? You can find 6 leakers on the web over their 100k warranty for really cheap. It's way cheaper to dump your 6 leaker when it craps out and buy another 6 leaker than it is to rebuild one. I am hearing $13,000-$16,000 just for a rebuild. When my tired old V-10 goes out at 150-200k, I can rebuild for $3,000 and have a blue printed and balanced engine that will last another 200k and still out tow a stock 6 leaker. Don't mean to knock you personally, but the 6 leaker is a real joke.
I haven't said anything bad have I? I'm just disagreeing with the claims for towing that I'm seeing on this very long thread. I see that you guys sure are insulting my non-leaking powerstroke though. I don't know anyone who has had to rebuild a powerstroke either. Why is rebuilding your motors always on your mind? Must be in the back of your minds as you're towing at 4500 rpm. The cylinders in my 6.0 will look like new when yours are getting a rebuild. There's a reason 3 out of 4 superduties are sold with the diesel option. The vast majority have no problems.
