That's quite a bit for an empty weight. Ours didn't weigh nearly that much(reg cab, xl, 5 speed, 460), but it probably didn't have all of the stuff on it that yours did. That is a pretty big load on the back of it, but I was meaning that his load alone would have to be 25,600 lbs (not counting truck weight) in order for him to be as much over weight proportionally as the 3/4 ton that john was talking about. I'll still give you points for the load though

I wonder what you can have on F450 to make it over 11k?
Mine is dump bed, what adds over 1000lb, liftgate over 600 lb and even with some tools it can't tip 10k unless I am on it

11 foot utility bed, miller welder, 200 feet of welding lead, ingersol rand air compressor, oxygen and acetylene bottles, over 1000lbs of spindles, sleves, and shims. over 100lbs of welding rods, tools, jacks, and cribbing blocks. Truck weighs in around 13,000lbs, give or take a little.

Mine had a 19' rollback body, with a wheel lift. Also had a 40 gallon side tank, with a 19 gallon midship, diesel, push bumper, and two tool boxes.

My 09 F550 V10 weighs 13,640 empty. The tow body (12 ton boom and stainless steel) alone was 4750# and I have a 425# front counter weight. Tow trucks can get pretty heavy.

I have a chevy 3500 that weighs in at 13500 fully loaded. It is a really a mobile shop when i am out of state. One thing i will not do again is make a truck with an independent front my service truck. About once every two years you can expect to rebuild the front end and they are not cheap. But other than that the truck has a 454 with an automatic that still runs strong at 245000 miles. Just thought i would throw that in mix about trucks and their weights.

Why not swap to a D60?
Lots of guys with OBS trucks that came with TTB D44s and D50s have done it, how much harder would it be on the chevy?

Well i thought about swapping out the front end but i think i am just going to upgrade my service truck and make the chevy part of the mowing crew. I found some 2010 f 550s crew cabs with imt dominator beds for sale but 88000 is hard to swallow when the one i use now is paid off. Especially in THIS ECONOMY.

$88,000?
Are they gold plated?

Edit: I just looked, the base F550 is about $35,000.
Every singel option I could use to jack the price up only gets it to $62,320.
Does that bed really cost over $20,000?

You can get a V10, auto, 4x4, long wheel base, crew cab with 19,500 gvw for $43,520.

You can get the V10 F550 4x4 a lot cheaper than that. Mine is a hard loaded 09 F550 Lariat V10 4X4 Super cab that listed at $48,800, I paid $39,900 for the chassis. But, with the stainless tow body, and all the add ons, I have $95,000 invested.

But thats a state of the art tow truck, not a tool bed.
I can't see the tool bed costing more than $10,000, so that puts him at $53,000.

What is the other $35,000 going too?

You have not priced a utilty bed lately. To get one that has an 6000 pound electic over hydraulic crane, manual out and hyd down outriggers, a hyd air comp, and storage boxes to hold the tools. The bed alone will cost me close to $50000. Now as long as the truck is not wrecked that bed will be able to be used on numerous truck chassis over its life. Its a big purchase at first but i could have the bed for 20 years. The place i have been pricing them is in houston at texas truck center and bulldog cranes in tn.
