I don't own many firearms, but two of them are illegal in Kailfornia because they consider them "assault weapons". I happen to like my AK-47, so I think I'll stay out...
I have a 7.62 x 39 Saiga. It has a detachable magazine, but since it does not have a pistol grip, it is Cali legal. I could put a pistol grip on it if I wanted, but then I would have to have a non-detachable magazine. Because everyone knows that if it had both, it would be extra dangerous! The laws here are ridiculous.
Funny thing is, when we take new people out shooting, the Saiga usually ends up being their favorite thing to shoot. We don't tell them at first that it's an AK.

DOH! Well, it's gotta be black, for starters.

Mine's just a cheap Romainan WASR-10. Never had any problems with it, but I don't shoot it as much as I'd like considering how much the cost of ammo has gone up. Regardless, I like my 30-round magazines and pistol grip. Not sure how it makes me dangerous or scary, but it sure is fun to shoot!
Never could figure out the logic behind states like California and New York. Seems that some people are simply scared to death of law abiding citizens owning firearms...
Usually someone sees a rifle and hears talk about how powerful it is and what it has been used for in the past and then ASSUMES that it is just too dangerous for the public to own and there really isn't a need for it in society. I do not believe this. I have owned guns growing up, but they were not anything like you are talking about. I owned a 12 Gauge, a .22 with a 20 round clip and a 30-06.
I have a very good friend whom is an avid gun collector and everytime new restrictions come out here in California, he is right there purchasing the gun before it is too late.
Our lawmakers here think that if guns were gone, crime with guns would be gone. They are a bunch of FOOLS.
Keep posting the different guns as I am learning here. This sounds like Poker- this gun beats this gun and so on and so on.LOL
I fireed an SK I think is what it is called. It was a german military rifle. Not alot of kick but man is it loud. Definitely not something you want to use in stealth mode. LOL
I have AKs and ARs, I love them both!.............If I was put in a situation where I could only have 1 weapon and my life depended on it.........Begrudgingly, It would be the AK-47/74...........No amount of abuse or lack of maintenance will stop them from functioning, Mikhail Kalashnikov was a genius of design.

Yes, and the irony there is that hunting rifles seem to be OK with most, regardless of the fact that they are significantly more powerful than AK's.

I couldn't agree more. I have put a couple thousand rounds of the cheapest ammo I could find through my Saiga, and cleaned it maybe once. Not a single misfire. Powerful, exceptionally accurate, and I paid $310 for it.
Oh boy, here we go. I am probably going to get flamed for saying that a 9 has, on average, more energy than a .45, and a .357 of course trumps them both.
So I am going to say:
.45 = 7.3L PSD
9mm = 5.4 Triton
.357 = V10 Triton
Fill in the blanks for the 6.0 and the 6.4. Maybe .40 S&W and 10MM, respectively?
I will be taking this thread to NEW HEIGHTS by being flamed by both the truck nuts and the gun nuts.

If I could only have one and my life was on the line, rem 870 all the way.
tough as nails and packs a mean punch.
I have it on good authority that the 7.3 is really the .17 HMR
That makes no sense, you guys keep saying the 7.3 slow and the V10 is faster due to hp advantage. The .17 HMR is quick, but doesn't have much power.
IMHO the 7.3 is like a .308 and the V10 would be something like a .243. They both have good power with the .243 being a little faster, but the .308 can handle a little bigger job.
Look at the ballistics information between the two! The .45 ACP rounds shown here have a muzzle velocity of between 770-974 ft/s, and a muzzle energy rating of 240-421 ft-lbs.
The 9mm values here are 1502 and 1249 ft/s, with 440 and 399 ft/lbs of energy, respectively.
Every different load has different ballistics, but what's here is a good representation of what you will typically find in each round. The 9mm has a smaller bullet with less mass. Because it's velocity is much faster, it has more energy. Since kinetic energy varies linearly by mass, and by the square with velocity, the higher velocity rounds typically have more energy. With FMJ loads this isn't as much of a concern, as both .45 and 9MM are capable of travelling through the unfortunate target. With hollowpoint loads, there is a definite advantage to the higher velocity, higher energy round, as they will expand more consistently and cause more damage.
The other advantage is magazine capacity. A standard, military issue Beretta 92FS, also known as an M9, has a capacity of 15 9mm rounds. The old 1911 style pistol has a capacity of only 7. Therefore, the 9mm Beretta has more than twice the energy available in each magazine.
Honestly, I think the .40 S&W is superior to each, and 10MM superior to the .40 S&W. But behind each of these lies the old, slow .45 ACP. Not that they're not fun to shoot, just that other, more modern cartridges are far superior in my opinion.

OK, who's the dirty dog that said it had to make sense? The rest of the thread didn't!-------------------------------------------------------
