I carry a Springfield 45XD but I take a risk to do it. The 9mm is probably better than the .45 simply because you really only want to shoot the loser coming through your door. It may take a couple rounds to stop him, but the 9mm does a fine job of that and the coroner can dig the rounds out of his dead corpse. The .45 will probably stop him faster but I may take out my neighbor walking his dog on the sidewalk after justice is performed on the intruder. If I shoot 2 rounds, I may get his dog too.

In my opinion, it's all about girth.

why?
Wont a slower, wider round go through less flesh before stopping ?

Ha! The american .45 military pistol was developed after some Polynesian Wars, where the opposition was really doped up to the point that they couldn't feel anything. When I was on active duty we were told the design objective of the .45 was to drop a cow to its knees with a single shot. Don't know how true that is though because we never shot any cows.....

The visual of the neighbor and then the dog falling victim to your two shots fired after going through the intruder has me ROFLMAO.

When somebody compared a 7.3 to a cartridge and it went to a .380 and then he said what is the zero for and I said a .380 was like a baby nine.

Here is what is good about the .380.....I know, my hand is dirty. Maybe we will get back to the all-important gasser VS diesel thread but this is pretty interesting.

Smallest and lightest pistol made.

That is a SMALL gun. My cousin has a derringer and as I recall it was about that size. How many shells does it hold?

Actually a Derringer is smaller but this Kel-tec holds 6+1 in the chamber. I used to carry it in a holster in my front pocket in Oregon when I was taking pictures down by the river in Portland at night. (spooky there). It is 5.2" long and weighs 8.3 oz.
