And thats a bumper pulled 12k. The van probably doesn't handle very well at 90 by itself, especially if its 11 years old. Add in 12k with a pivot point several feet behind the wheels and the thought of how much it must sway makes me cringe.
I just re-did the steering and it handles pretty good.
It has very little sway, not sure why. It seems like it should have more than it does.
I believe you win the fastest towing award. I really have no reason to pull the trailer that fast. Here in California the speed limit for towing is 55. I am already breaking the law and at 80-90 I believe I would be arrested for wreckless driving. Unless it is 2am, it is not possible to maintain 80-90 for a very long time. I always have to slow down as it is due to traffic.
Where I live at (where horse and buggies almost out number pickups) horse exhaust is a real concern.
Ok...and vehicle that gets 8-10 mpg is such a friend to nature?
Diesels emit black smoke, this is true. It's called soot/sulphur, and it is a byproduct of diesel fuel. A diesel does not pollute anymore than a gas vehicle of the same size.(especially since the introduction of ULSD and bio mixes)..people just think they do because they can see the exhaust.

You are correct.
And actually a diesel is less polluting than a gas engine. By a wide margin.
Pretty near 0% hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide is produced during the combustion process.
Gas engines have required catalytic converters since the mid '70's and diesel engines have not until much later and those are simply particulate traps, not catalytic converters.

Umm, I guess this was my ill-conceived attempt at a joke. I was talking about horse poop aka "horse exhaust" in these parts. But feel free to talk about diesel exhaust and fuel mileage and other stuff that relates to this thread.

I thought it was a joke and I laughed. Then I saw smokin's post and thought I was a dummy for thinking it was a joke and now, oh well.....................

Oops, sorry. I guess I was in 'serious mode' when I read it and went in the wrong direction.
Not ill-conceived, just ill-received. Funny. Ever been on a horse when it has bad gas? It's some kind of torture, I tell ya.

Sometimes jokes get missed or misunderstood. That's because everyone is cocked and loaded just waiting to fire back especially if the comment is made by someone having the opposing engine.
