Well, you live in Texas, Bill lives in Texas. You have a 7.3 that is not highly modified that he thinks he can smoke. Go pull some hills with him to shut him up! From what I understand, all you need is a flat bed trailer and his mom strapped down, and you have your 10k of weight needed! haha (sorry Bill, had to).

There is always an excuse errrr reason. LOL
I am 10 hours from Amarillo, but with the chip set to stock I would pull with him, if he was closer.
Whats better? I am a proud Triton V10 man and will never get a PSD as long as ford makes the V10. What are the PSD's high points?
IMO
I have an 2003 Excursion 4x4 with the V-10 and a 2006 4x4 f-250 with the 6.0 deisel.
the v-10 will tow anything the 6.0 will with no problem.....period!
the 6.0 will tow the same as well with no problem ......period!
fuel mileage for the excursion is 10mpg and the f-250 is 13mpg. Fuel mileage for both of them stays the same loaded or empty. both are bone stock.
however, my excursion has just over 100,000 miles and the only thing I have replaced (just recently) is the original Motorcraft battery. It has never, ever been wrenched on. It has been driven from Florida all the way through the Tennesee mountains and back without even a hickup.
the deisel has 130,000 miles and has left me for dead a couple of times (locally)and if I didnt repair the FICM module myself TWICE, it would have cost me a couple of thousand dollars. I would not consider driving it out of the state even though it seems to run great. There is the though in the back of my mind (is it going to run and start).
I guess it really comes down to what you like, I like my deisel better, but everything about it is more expensive and less dependable......IMO
I know the deisel is slightly faster and has more torque, but when its not running, that doesnt mean anything! If I could do it again, I would buy a F-250 with the V-10
please keep in mind that I love the way the deisel sounds with the turbo and when you drive by someone, it just say "I am a bad a$$ truck" but it is EXPENSIVE in every aspect, I guess I am willing to pay the price even though I complain. for me the truck is a luxury
That's why I got the 7.3L...power AND reliability .
And, yes, it's still expensive. Unfortunately I didn't have a choice. Due to my extensive shortcomings and inadequacies, the V10 wasn't going to be enough to compensate, so I was forced to buy the big block diesel . With my truck, I barely make it into the man category !
I used to have a 7.3... and I loved that truck! Only reason I sold it is because I got stationed in Germany years ago and they wouldn't ship it (too big). It had 218,000 on it and would smoke the dually tires when asked. Never a problem other than a dead battery. And with my programer (which I still have) I got upwards of 20 MPG.
I won't talk crap about the V-10, because I've never owned one. In fact, all it is, is a 5.4 with 2 more cylinders. I still have a 5.4 and can attest to it's reliability, other than puking a spark plug... But it'll never last as long as a diesel. This I know.
As far as the PSD's, I really want a new one, but they are WAY too pricey and the DPF chokes the mileage out of them. I am considering getting a 6.0. As long as you get a good one, the 6.0 is a helluva motor. And you do have to keep up on maintanance, as I am told.
I am not speaking for all 6.0's, but I believe the majority of the people that have maintained them and kept them stock have not had many problems with them. I have an 03 F-350 CC LB FX4 Lariat 6.0 and I love it. I have a Dodge with the V10 and it is a great engine, it just doesn't pull like the diesel does. I know they aren't apples to apples, but the Dodge is rated at 300hp and 450 lb/ft of torque, so it is very close to the 2000- 2004 Ford's. The mileage on the 6.0 is definitely an improvement, but I know the 7.3 is better yet. Just my $.02
