I love the OBS trucks. Im lookin for another one, but my 04 interior is much nicer. I actaully looked at one today. It was on 38s, but when i crawled under, no t-case. It either used to be a two wheel drive that someone put a front axle in, or it was 4x4 and that had driveline problems and had a 2wd tranny layin around. Other then that it was super clean, but 6900 was to much.lol
$6900 and missing parts?
I Like the OBS trucks, but the Superdutys are my favorite.
I love my 83 too, that was a pretty body style. I Have even thought about dropping a V10 in, but would take to much custom stuff to make it work. So I am going to put a 6.9 IDI in and mod it.
I can't believe I read as much of this thread as i did.
Don't know who posted it, but you can easily produce 450hp without touching the motor (injectors, turbo, custom tunes, and a fuel crossover to prevent dead heading are all thats really needed).
A 6.0 is reliable with supporting mods (see Diesel Power's writeup; headstuds and egr delete). Expensive: yes, but will make one heck of a reliable truck.
I'm no genius on gearing or horsepower numbers or torque calcs, but if a gasser was a better tow machine, then why aren't they on the roads more than you see them? Why do almost all farmers own a diesel to tow their farm equipment? Why do big rigs run a diesel? They're more reliable, pull more efficiently, and can handle a larger load.
I'm proud you and your father tried to decide for 6 weeks on a truck, but at 17, how much real world knowledge do you really have in this field? Towing at 90mph? I call B.S. I'm not much older than you, but I feel like your just filling your head with hot air here bud.
As for the "more psd's are on a trailer from breaking" statement way back wherever it was, this is a simple statistics problem. If more psd's are on the road, more psd's are going to be broken. Done deal.
I may be poking my head somewhere it doesn't belong, but I find this thread comical and redundant all in one big package. It's threads like this that make this forum seem more like PSN or others that are more about degrading others rather than simply enjoying a shared love for a company. Not trying to start anything, but its the truth.
Another way of looking at it is, these discussions are going to happen anyway, "HP vs. Torque", "Gas vs. Diesel", "Ford Vs. Chevy", etc. I see a thread like this, currently at 1850(!) posts, as "containment". The argument is taking place in one location, and one can choose to not click on it if they're not in the mood for it.
But, it does get cyclic. If you were enough of a masochist to re-read this thread, you'd see the same argument repeated probably a dozen times. At least it hasn't gotten *too* bloody.

I have taken 250,000 pounds of scrap in and towed for 35,000 miles in the last 14 months, plus all the towing and hauling before I started keeping track of It.
I can not take scrap home with me and when it is 4:30 and they close at 5:00, ( it is a 45 minute drive at the speed limit ) yes, I run as fast as the traffic allows.
On the full of hot air thing, If that is your opinion of me then I am not going to try to argue with you about it.

Hahahahaha I believe you now! Quoting you saying that you live 45 minutes from the scrap yard, lets assume the speed limit is 90mph. 90mph for 45 minutes gets you 67.5 miles. If you say you towed for 35,000 miles and each trip is 67.5 miles, you made 518.518 (i'll round this to 518) trips. Now if you spread out 250,000 lbs. over 518 trips, each trip you hauled a whopping 482.62548 lbs. per trip.
I'd say thats believable for both a v10 and a e350.
I can break it down further for you and say that you hauled 37 loads a month, 17,857.14276 lbs. per month, .
