blue CPS fail

Folks,
My CPS just failed me. Coming home from work i started getting a lot of hesitation and it lasted about 3 minutes. Pulled over on the highway, which i despise doing, and everything was running ok. Jumped back in went home and
pulled blue CPS to check it out ...it looked ok so reinstalled and truck wouldn't start...period. Installed original back in and she fired no problem??!!!! Maybe
i got a bad one? Don't know. Oh well.

The blue cmp sensors fail at a rate WAY greater than the black sensors that normally go in your engine. I believe I mentioned this earlier in this thread. We probably sell and install 1-2 blue sensors a Day and a black sensor every six weeks. Navistar is constantly changing the blue sensor to try and get better reilability out of it.

No good!! Sorry to hear about that. Hopefully (for the rest of us anyway) you just got a bad one. How old was it? Might take note of it, to see if others start failing -- if there is an correlation between age/mileage and Blue failure.

Well, if they fail more often, there goes the argument for it on saving money by increased MPG's, depending on rate of failure of course. Any ideas how long these Blue one's usually last?

There was no particular mileage that the sensors fail at. I've seen them fail before the truck even leaves the lot (brand new). Many of them, (not all of them) will last 1-2 yrs. There are the freaks that last much longer though.

Must have got a bad one Nut. I have heard of guys that have had the blue cps in their trucks for years without a failure. Even though I don't know why these things break anyway. Why would a Hall effect sensor like the one in a gasser distributor run forever and the ones in are trucks fail so often? Has anyone cut a failed sensor apart to see whats broke? Whats causing it, the environment of the inside of the engine, the heat or being bathed in oil or maybe a feedback loop form the our trucks cpu. Does IHC have a high failure rate on there engines like Ford? Or is Honeywell just making junk stuff? I don't know.

what a minute!!!! I thought this thing is supposed to be the latest and greatest thing? There's no way I will put one in my truck if it is going to go out in a year or so. I dont care what the mpg goes up to. I dont have that kind of time or money to replace it that often.

Well on the money front, I figure it will take 8000-9000 miles for the Blue CPS to pay for itself with the MPG savings. I figured that on $2.50 a gallon for fuel. So, if it lasts longer than that, I will still use it for the smoother running engine and easier starts. I know Nut's didn't, but I guess only time will tell how others do.

You make a good point, and I put around 25k a year on mine so I guess it would pay for itself in my case.

I put the question up over at the Stop, about the Blue CPS failure just to see how many have gone bad. 35 looks no hits yet. Nuts is the first one I've heard of going down. I would like to know my self.
