You will need to get a pulse from an injector or someplace else for a reference as to when it is firing. This may help in telling what it is doing with the timing. If you just have the pluse you will not be able to say if it shifts the timing or not. Good luck.
Way ahead of you!! I have access to an optical tachometer here at work that also can be used as a triggering device for my DSO. What better way to check the correlation between CPS waveforms than by using a FIXED triggering signal on the crankshaft (which DIRECTLY drives the camshaft gear)?
FYI:
The camshaft 'reluctor' wheel has the open slots (or CPS "off-time") spaced 15 degrees apart. They are all of equal size EXCEPT one of them which is narrower signifying cylinder number 1 TDC compression. The PCM NEEDS to know exact location at all times.
Dieselinnovations had one of the early versions of the HX line made with flex hose. I have that on my truck and it's still dry and no bubbles. I made sure that both connectors are pointing at each other when I installed it. So far so good.
I'm getting the solid line at the first sign of trouble.
I think the HX line is the biggest contributor to a smooth idle in the morning. I never ever had the romps that so many complain about, but it was a lot noisier before I put in the line.
Noticible differance with the Blue cps. Smoother idle , more responsive rev-up and seems to have more power, will have to see how the mileage is . This is good stuff!!
Pretty smooth going in also. Thanks

I keep reading so many good things about the "blue" cps. I feel like a dumba$$ asking but what is the "blue" cps? Smoother running and 1.5 mpg better sounds like something I want to know more about.

It is a camshaft position sensor part # 1807339C92 made for the IHC DT466 engine, which seems to improve things when installed in our engines.
If you read this whole thread, every page. You'll know as much as everyone else, which is, no one knows why it works the way it does. All I can say is, it made my trucks engine quieter, smoother and I picked up over 1.5mpg.
Nice toys, nah. But working as a tech in a Chevy dealership has its perks....job security being one of them.
Update:
Here is a list of mods/etc. and the approximate mileage of each. Keep in mind that this is all unloaded and the speed is the legal speed limit (75) that has been corrected for tire sizes (I'm **** about driving the speed limit). Also, all mileage is hand-figured (no lie-o-meter readings). I don't figure mileage on commuting....all 200+ mile trips.
1. Purchased truck with 4" exhaust, K&N intake, Western Diesel 60 HP chip, and 285/75-16s.
Best mileage attained: 14.6 and pretty well average for a few tankfuls.
2. Removed chip. Started using Power Service (white) religiously.
Best mileage: Not figured (couldn't stand to drive it).
3. Uploaded SCMT 90 HP tune. Tpok out "chip"....still have it, but it's worthless. Just makes lots of smoke and high EGTs.
Best mileage: 18.4
4. Purchased new tires in 255/85-16 size. (same height, just about 1.2 inches narrower per tire)
Best mileage: 20.56!!!
5. Installed "blue" CPS
Best mileage on FIRST TANKFUL: 21.95 MPG
Now, I realize that there are a LOT of variables when figuring mileage so with the advice from this board, here are the variable I have tried to keep as constant as possible:
Full tank (yes, to the top of the filler neck)
Same fueling station
Same pump too!!! Small town. Boulder, MT
SAME ROUTE every time...sometimes 200 miles, sometimes 420 miles.
Cruise control on 70.5 MPH the whole way. Only one interstate interchange and no traffic.
Maybe a fluke? Who knows? I'll keep track and let you know what I find out this weekend.
