anybody know if there is a version of dt466 sensor that will fit a 96 and older engine??
what is the difference between the obs and super duty sensor? i think i have heard it is the length of the sensor or the reach. can anybody confirm this? i may try to a little research at the ih dealer we get parts from at work see what i can dig up but any help from you guys would be great. my dad has already ordered his for his 03 so when they deliver it well see how it goes.
just put mine in yester day idle big differance driving enorumus improvement quiet as my 77 f100 54000 og miles 302 now thats quite.worth evry penny. 118$ inc tax.
Just Picked Me Up One This Evening On The Way Home From Work At A Local International Dealer. $ 108.00 ...... Will Install In The Morning To See What Difference I Notice. Even If I Don't Notice Any Thing I Figure That My Stock One Could Go Out At Any Time Now. ( Getting Close To 80,000 Miles ) So This Way I Shouldn't Have To Worry About The Cps Sensor For A While.
Difference between "early" and "late" CPS's is the plating material on the connector pins. Early is tinned, late is gold-plated.
Not sure what the "blue" DT466 CPS connectors are plated with. The magnet in this one has more gauss (stronger magnetism), supposedly making a stronger, more dependable signal back at the PCM.
Since gold is virtually inert and impervious to corrosion, You SHOULD (in theory) be able to use a "late" in an early application and not have any repercussions.
All three will actually fit and perform in all three engines.

This is all very interesting. I can take a couple of vacations with the truck and trailer and it will pay for itself easily.
And the quieting down, sounds like it greatly reduces cylinder/combustion pressures as well. Adding up to reducing stress on the engine. Anyone noted an increase in EGT?

ihave noticed no change in egt's throttle response seems to be better (smother) but took awhile like 4 or 5 hundred miles. havent checked milage since change i'll fill up today and report milage later.
p.s. thanks for the pm kwik learning all the time.
Do you suppose using dialectic grease on the pins would help it not to have a reaction?
I reccomend the use of dielectric grease on all electrical connections, especially those that are outside of a cab or protected place, and exposed to the water, dirt, moisture, etc.

If you want some reading over on TDS, there is 24 pages about DT466 in a 444.
How about the "Cliff's Notes" on those 24 pages, Craven?
Save us some time, if you read through it all.

I've been following that post for quite sometime. Most if not all, that have installed the DT466 (blue cps) Have been reporting an increase of 1.5 or more mpg. A smoother running, quieter and stronger running engine. It doesn't matter if it's a stock or a heavily modified 7.3. Some say it works instantly, others say it took a few hundred miles for the improvements to come in.
The reason went from It advanced the timing to it retarded the timing and it seems that the consensus is now, that it gives a tighter, stronger signal to the Computer. Whatever it does, it works.
I didn't have a spare cps, so I picked one up at my local IH dealer( paid the long dollar for it too $127.46). I installed it Thurs.. I didn't notice any big difference, until today. Cold start, about 30deg not plugged in. The engine sounded like it was all warmed up, allot quieter and I must say smoother. I'll see on the next fill up, what if or any increase in fuel mileage. Maybe my truck is one that takes awhile to adjust to the new signal, I don't know.
If you don't have a spare cps pick up a IH pn#1807339C92 cps and try it and keep your stocker for a spare or just pick one up and try it. As far as I know everyone that has tried it, have had good results, some better than others. I think one guy said his truck ran ruff, but got better mileage, but after a couple hundred miles he said it smoothed out and ran better, than before he installed the thing.
Some say it's the best $100.00 mod they have done to their 7.3.
All's I can say is give one a try.

Yeah...Craven that's what i got for results so far. Excellent cold start ability.
I've had my new IHC CPS for about a week now.....it is still in the box. I decided to check the strength of the magnets in the brand new IHC CPS and the brand new Ford CPS that I have been carrying around for the past year or so. Now this was a real scientific test.....but I'm sure you guys can relate.
The Ford CPS is still in an unopened bag and I didn't want to open it, so the test was done with one layer of the plastic bag covering the tip of the CPS. The Ford CPS will (just barely) hold up a 9/16ths, half inch drive socket.
I took the IHC CPS out of the box placed the loose end (one layer) of the Ford CPS bag over the IHC CPS. That thing will hold a 1 inch, half inch drive socket!!!
That is still no answer to why everyone is seeing the improvements that they are reporting, but it is certainly clear that the magnet in the IHC CPS is superior.
