I can't believe this thread hasn't been subdivided into something more reader friendly. I've been on some other forums and have never seen anything over 10 pages. Vic, you seem to be the wizard, so how about some nice, quick, simple answers to the easy questions:?(the admin directed me here and after reading 10 pages, I'm cross-eyed and I still don't have my answer to my original post).
1.Stock, I'm getting about 18 mpg on a trip from Ga-Oh at about 79 on cruise, is that high, low or average?
2.Is the 2-4 mpg increase thru using the Superchip highway, city, towing highway or towing city?
3.I just want the best possible mileage while towing a 30', 6k lb trailer, what is a realistic expectation when I buy the Supertuner?(on the trip back, I got 7-9 mpg which sucks. I expected more from a diesel)
For those of you who have read these questions 100 times and know the answers, I apologize. I tried the search feature and got nothing useful. HP obviously means WAY more than mpg on here, so I guess I'm the only one living in Ga who commutes to Atlanta everyday.

Until Vic chimes in...
18 mpg is great unloaded! A Superchips on Econ may add a mile or two.
I would expect to see that gain while pulling as well but Vic will have to confirm. 7-9 sound very low to me, what gears do you have?
Vic had mentioned to me that some people actually get better mileage with the Performance tune -- he said it ultimately depends on driving style, but that it is worthwhile to try both settings under similar conditions and see what works best for you.
In my case, I think the Economy setting gives me slightly better mileage, but the truth is it's hard to tell because I haven't had the tuner very long and I'm still having WAAAAY too much fun with it to get reliable results with either tune ... Haha!!

Ok, you've struck a nerve.
Should I let someone else answer this one? =0)
This is a general attitude that I don't like, and I'll be direct in saying so.
Please, DO NOT tell me how or when to answer, particularly in a casual discussion thread.
It's ok to ask, but I can't possibly answer everything. Some things have become so redundant that I can't answer anymore....simply because it is time consuming.
It would be cool if there was a good search function, but I have no control ove that.
This is not technical support, so please don't get testy when I don't answer. Ask other users...read old posts, do internet research. The information is out there.

18 MPG is good.
There is a thread on this forum on this subject specifically.

Some trucks may gain 1 MPH, some gain 2, some gain 3 or 4.
It's unfortunately not as cut and dry as you are trying to make it.

You need to dig deep and do your homework. Use search engines, do general research and you'll start to see patterns. If you are getting 9 MPH towing, you should see some gains with a tuner.

New2Diesel2, you won't get that much mileage out of a 5.4L Triton pulling that load. My Uncle has one and pulls a boat (2500 Lbs) and he gets about 7 MPG. I pull around 13K and get somewhere between 9-11 MPG on my 250 w/ 6.0L and 3.73's. If you hooked ur load behing a gasser you would expect around 5-6 Mpg if I had to guesstimate.

Once you put a load on the gasser, it drinks fuel like a pig.
Especially with a programmer, the diesel will make power under less load (engine load) due to more efficient mapping, and you will usually get better mileage.
Vic, wasn't trying to fire you up, just looking for some answers.YES I know how to use the search and YES I did try that first. Thank you for acknowledging the inefficiency of the search feature. I am NOT giving attitude nor was I directing you on how or when to answer. I believed the answers to be here and that's why I was asking, I directed my questions to you because you seem to be the one that knows the most judging by the 11 pages I read on here. Vegas, thank you for your answer and not flaming me on my first post. AS I SAID, I apologize to those of you who have answered these questions 100 times, I'm new and I will start reading all I can on here and trying to get familiar with how to go about finding answers.

It's not really a big deal....just a subject (answers to questions) that has been up a lot lately. This thread should be (and is) enjoyable and informative with or without my input.
I hope you are enjoying your new truck.
You'll get to know it's "sweet spots" and where it runs most fuel efficient.
A programmer will no doubt give you some more power and most likely some mileage gains.
[QUOTE=Vic_Ferrari]Ok, I can see some have the issue.
Please, no more posts on this subject.
I will find a solution and post when there is one.
For anyone who feels they want it addressed, call superchips for an RA.[/QUOTE
Don't mean to add to the demand for this, but I tested it on my truck. Its an '04 with the June/July (RC2) flash and 1704 5.03. In economy mode, mine does NOT chirp coming out of cruise and functions normal. Just wanted to contribute to isolating it. I tried it in both normal and tow-haul mode.

I believe it to be isolated to some particular hex codes.
Well guys, I guess I may not join the ranks of SCMT users yet. Took the truck in to have a safty recall done and asked them to make sure that I had the latest flash and they didn't know what I was talking about. I have one of the first reflashes and was waiting for a better one to come out. Now I hear the latest for my truck is the best so far and I need a newer one to use a SCMT. Well it seems I know more than the service writer for Maroone Ford. No flash = no tuner = sad copsquat. Woe is me.
If you do a search in the 6.0 area, SBV45 has the new flash and the number of it…..it is a good one....really it is a great one....do the search find the info you need to tell the dealership what you want......enjoy all that power!
