In my truck the Economy mode makes a fairly big difference, though it is not as impressive as the HP tune, that's for sure.
The throttle mapping in all the SCMT tunes on my truck seems to be such that you need to press down aways on the throttle before you start to tap the additional power - but it is certainly there.
Make sure that you have the truck warmed up first, then try this. With the truck stock, hold on the brake and press the throttle till you've got the motor revving to about 1800 RPM. Then at the same time, let off the brake and floor the throttle.
Then repeat the exercise in the HP mode. If you don't feel a huge difference something is wrong.
Install the HP mode. Econ is not very impressive. You will not feel much of a difference till the last 1/4 of throttle travel. In HP mode you should feel a huge difference.
Econ on an "04" strategy truck is different than econ on an "03".
Econ on an 04 shifts just as high as Performance, just not quite as much power.
Econ is toned down a bit on the 03 strategies, for a number of reasons.
03's run different than 04's run different than 05.
However, if this guy feels no difference in acceleration, he is either totally non-observant, or something is wrong here.
Vic, I didn't want to try to hijack this thread with SCT discussion so I started another one SCT vs. SCMT and I was wondering if you would be willing to chime in?
Okay guys I need some help here! I ordered the SCMT and it arrived yesterday. This afternoon I plugged it in, ran through all of the sequences without any problems and selected the Economy mode and installed the programming. I jumped in the Ex., and with the anticipation of a young school boy on Christmas Eve I prepared to get my socks knocked off. Well, I must say that I am thoroughly dissappointed. Something must be wrong. I could feel the new firmness in the shifts and the higher revs, but the acceleration was no better than stock. Have I done something wrong?? Is there a break-in period??? My neighbor and friend, with the exact same model and year vehicle as mine, just recently installed the Diablo with the 65hp program in his Ex. and when I drove it I couldn't believe the difference. The acceleration was insane compared to stock. I thought to myself, well heck, if the 65hp program in the Diablo is that impressive, then imagine what the 120hp, much less the 150hp, program of the SCMT would do. Fellas, I am bummed!! The only thing I haven't tried is the Tow Mode, which I will do in the morning. I purchased my vehicle in 11/03 and currently have about 17k miles. Were my expectations too high or do I have a problem? Maybe the programming didn't take?? From everything that I have read on this board I was expecting performance nothing less than spectacular, but I have to say that I am ready to swap the SCMT for the Diablo if this is as good as it gets. Thanks for your time!!!
It sounds to me like you have a problem.
Be sure you aren't mistaking power for throttle sensitivity.
I chose not to make the throttle too sensitive as it causes shifting and fuel mileage issues.
Did you put it on the floor and let it rip?
If you did, and can't feel a huge power gain, something is wrong.
This morning I put the truck back to stock then reinstalled the HP program. I took it out and noticed fair gains...and YES I had my foot to floor board!!! I also tried a drag style take-off with the brake applied, ran the throttle up and let 'er go. Barely a tire chirp and not the neck snapping performance I had heard about from others. Having had the opportunity to drive the same vehicle with the "other" tuner installed, I have to say I'm not satisfied. I'll give it a couple of days and see what happens.
A buddy has a early '05 Excursion I believe with a '04 engine. His wife asked me what I recommend for a Valentines day present and guess what I said? SUPERCHIPS 1704!!! Will the 1704 work on a '05 X with a '04 engine? Should I check the computer code to be sure?

Something is not right. In 2wd I did a 2100rpm launch and spun the tires deep into 2nd gear. Two black marks were visible all the way through the intersection (at night nobody around). I can beat my buddy in his GS400 all the way up to 100mph! This is with me running 315/70/17 BFGs!
I bought my '05 Excursion just before New Years ... it was an existing truck, not an order. Please advise where I should look to find out the "build date" as well as what computer flash it was built with. I'd like to think it's an '05 truck with an '05 motor, but after reading the last few posts I'm wondering if I have an '04 motor in it...

All of the 05 excursions I've driven so far are "04".
04 dash, 04 radio, 04 engine management.
They are not yet officially supported, but some of them are 04 carry-overs.
(Remember the 04 F150 "heritage"?) They were clones of 03 trucks.

Call superchips for an RA; I will help you get to the bottom of this.
That was going to be my next question too, considering I'm waiting for the chance to SCMT-ize my new '05!!
I wouldn't know whether my X has an 04 dash, 04 radio, etc ... it certainly seems to be equipped the way the '05 brochure states it should be, and it definitely has the '05 grill and headlamps. How are the dash and radio different between '04 and '05?
Thanks again (in advance) for the education,
Steve

The main way to tell is by calibration. Look between the battery and drivers side fender (point of view is standing in front of the truck by the drivers side headlight.) You should see a code of three letters an one number (example: ABC1)
