racer, dont worry it will be worth it. You just got caught in the loop. You needed a newer flash but the latest flash from ford was in november I think? Your programmer was prob made last fall, mine was made in dec. When you get it back from superchips you will be happy... It woke up my 03`
NEVER ENDING PROBLEMS!!!!!! got my SCMT in for my 2003 6.0l, tried to tune my truck, it tells me my truck needs to be reflashed. no problem, I went and did that today. I tried again to tune my truck now it says the tuner needs a update, tried to call superchips but closed, I cant wait any longer. whats the deal? Anyone else have these problems? Can I expect another special request from this SCMT? I'm real close to returning it, but I dont want to.
These are not problems.
Call superchips and they will update the tuner for the NEW FLASH at no charge.
If you read the thread back a bit you will understand how and why a flash device works this way.
You had an old original flash that is not supported due to stock drivability issues. You then updated to a flash that ford obviously just released and is not yet part of the tuner database. The tuner is doing it's job. It's saved the new file and now it can be added to the database.
Be patient, it is well worth it.
Please realize this isn't just as simple as it seems, and a lot of steps are involved in assuring file integrity and getting a vehicle tuned PROPERLY.
I would not just force a generic flash into the PCM because it's "easier".
Superchips will turn the tuner around QUICKLY and also cover shipping costs (both ways) if you send a copy of the proof of purchase and shipping bill.
Call them for an RA. They are open 8-5 M-F Eastern time

I agree vic, I rode in my buddies 04` my 03` ran quite a bit different. Does it have to do with the different turbo vanes of the 03 and the 04? I also know these two motors ran different cams.
I sent it back to superchips, I understand the importance to get this truck tuned properly. I have read to many good things about this tuner. When I put it in, I'm sure I'll be happy. I just got new tires and wheels in, so I'm planning on melting my tires down with the SCMT, I'll film it for the enjoyment for all of us.

Vic, You have stated before that most 1704's see a max boost of 30-32psi. I have an X-monitor and twice I have reset it and twice my max boost was 35.9psi is this anything to worry about.
Mine has done the same thing Brian, But it was not a constat boost above 32, I have seen mine spike up like that on a WOT downshift. Has anyone ever seen somebody run a blowoff valve on these trucks? Like a greddy? Because once I blew my intercooler tube off doing that.

The EGT has never exceeded 1270.
1270 is ok, boost gettin a little high.
It may just be a small boost "spike".

Do you have larger tires with a stock gear?
LOL, I had a feeling that might have something to do with it more load=more boost. 315/75/16's.
BTW I am getting 16.5mpg with the HP tune and those tires on the stock gear. Which I think it pretty good. I would say with no lift and stock tires it would easily get 20-22mpg.

What concerns me is that I see a lot of trucks with taller tires (like 37 or 38's) and still retaining the stock gear.
This is wrong....
Lets do the match and see how tall your tires are:
315mm x 75% =236.25mm (this is your sidewall height, for one sidewall)
Multiply this x 2 and you get 472.50mm of total sidewall height
Convert to inches (472.50mm x 0.039 = 18.43 inches)
18.43" + 16" (rim size) = 34.43", which is your approximate overall height from the ground to the top of the tire (give or take .5" for inflation, tire bead seating and tire brand variations).
34" isn't really that extreme, but will create more load, especially if they are wider and have heavier rims.
If you are running 4.10 for stock gears you should be fine with 34", but you may want to consider upgrading if you have a 3.55 or 4.10 stock gears.
36"+ tires and up....it's just plain silly to retain the stock gear.
Switching to a lower (numerically higher) gear will offset the effective gearing affected by taller tires.
Lets say you've to a 3.73 gear with 31" tires and you install 44" tires.
Now, your effective gearing might act like you had 2.40 gears (I'm not doing math again, but you get the idea).
Taller tires raise effective gearing (they lower it numerically) and a numerically higher gear will offset the problem.
You must, of course, choose the correct gear to install...

I did a second look at what Toyo sent me i thought my tires were 325/ but they are 285/ so I think thats 32'' - 33'' inch tires. What ever I cant comnplain got the set for free.
