I will have a brand new stock motor in my truck by next Friday. My question is, how long (in miles) do i need to wait before i throw my SCMT back in the truck? Im a little leary about doing it the first day i get it back. Should I stay away from the High-Perf tune for a while too?
I was tuning trucks with anywhere from 100 miles to 40,000 miles.
It's ok to install tuning right away, but MAKE SURE you still follow the manufacturers guielines for break-in.
It's takes a little while for these (like nearly any) engines to get loose and make max power.
Thanks, they did not sell it to me, so, I don't have it to update yet. I was wanting to know if they have any on the market that are updated already? Maybe I should check with that dealer and see if he has any updated ones?
I don't think you are following the situation 100%
Any 1704 tuner will say "needs update" when plugged into your truck.
This means that Ford gave you a new set of files that isn't part of the current 1704 database. Since I'm not into haphazardly tuning new codes that havent been tested, the tuner promps you to get the tuner updated at Superchips.
I will then check the tunability of your new stock files, and create tuned files for your new stock files.
This happens on occasion because Ford occasionally releases new hex codes that were previously unknown and it is important that all tuning is specific to each hex code.
I have an 03 PSD. I am considering whether to go with the Sperchips or the Diablo. I am mostly interested in mileage, but do two a 3500lb. boat. I usually run about 80 mph when pulling my boat. I will not be running an EGT guage. Will I have anything to worry about with either of these tuners. I am leaning toward the Superchips, becasue of the presence, and effort, of Vic on here.

Let's see. You've spent ~$40K on a truck, some more on a boat, and will spend ~$350 on a tuner, but you don't want to spend a couple of hundred on some guages to help you ensure that you don't damage a $12K motor. Sounds like, "Penny wise and pound foolish."
Actually, it has to do with a truck that is under warranty. I do not want to give the dealer any idea that it is anything but a stock truck. They may not be able to do anything about it, but it seems in my best interest to avert all suspicion. Having an EGT guage installed will raise eyebrows, whether it can be proven or not.Obviously, from the money I spent on my truck, my boat, and am going to spend on the tuner, it is not a money issue.
When my service technician asked about my guages, I told him I had a friend who had burned up his PSD pulling a horse trailer at just below maximum weight over high mountain passes in Montana in the heat of summer. (Which, by the way, was true.) He agreed that there were situations when even the stock tuning could result in damage to the motor.
In my opinion, it's better to have the guages and know you've not exceeded the EGT maximums than to be looking at a burned out motor wishing you'd had a way to "see" what was going on.

Gauges are your OWN insurance policy. This has nothing to do with a tuner it has everything to do with monitoring your engine.
Gauges DO NOT raise eye browses, it does however show that you are taking good care of your truck, and care enough to buy something that Ford should have installed in the first place.
Has anyone had the opportunity to test their tuner after sending it in for an update? Mine was recieved at home today, but unfortuneatley I am out of state at the moment.
Vic...ive had my tuner for about 2 months now. Im getting a new motor within the week, and it will probably have an updated 04 flash according to some things ive read here. Am I going to need to send it back to Superchips for an update?
Well I got my scmt today and to be honest am a little disapointed.Even on performance tuning does not feel like 150 ponies.Really does not feel as much hp gain as my 1705 I have installed on a 7.3 .Could it be I dont have the latest flash, and not be getting full power.I thought I read where the latest flash you would lose tow-haul mode ,and mine still works fine.By the way truck is 03 f-350,05-03 build. It has been flashed once when i dropped injector at 2500 miles.dont remember date . I now have 40k miles no other problems except sometimes eratic idle after getting warmed up.

I'm planing on doing a mileage test in ECON, but the tuner's not back here yet. I have no complaints about power running STOCK.
I'm just curious to see if the harsh shifting was fixed and how the power band was when compared to original flashed 1704.
I just got my tuner back from Superchips this morning after returning it for the harsh shifting update in Economy mode. Shifting is now great and power band seems to be exactly as it was with the original SCMT tune in economy mode. After a short (22 mile) trip to town and back I can already see an improvement in economy compared to the original SCMT tune according to the overhead. Driveability is awesome. My truck - 03/03 build F250 King Ranch 4X4, November flash. LOVE my SCMT and PSD!
