I took my truck to the dealer in mid December and they installed the latest flash. When I hooked my SuperChip back up, it would not read the computer. I called SuperChips and they told me to send it back and they would update the program. Mine is the 1704 I believe(6.oL). I am currious to see if this has happened to anyone else. Can anyone explain what the deal is there and if it is something that will appen again. By the way, SuperChips reprogrammed it at no charge so that was cool.

Its happened to quite a few, and no big deal. The problem is that the flash you have now was built after your Superchips program. They update your device with the current program that is aware of your new flash. SC is very careful to only tune known versions of Ford's firmware (a good thing), and thus the need for this. It took me just 5 days to send mine in and get it back.
Here goes my first post on this site. I got a recommendation from another diesel site to come here for some info on the Superchips 1704 v. 5.03. I have an '03 F350 DRW (I'll try to do a signature later today). I had been running w/o any reflashes until just before Xmas and therefore the programmers were not an option for me. The romping on a warm restart got to the point where it was emberassing and I had it flashed - it ended up getting the FTE flash and I like it so far. The pilot injection is gone but I don't mind the little extra clatter, and the running quality is much improved. The loss of the tow/haul performance is something I will have to verify when I go back to tow. The glow plugs don't seem to cycle as long on a warm start. Anyway, thats not the point of my post - as mentioned, I thought that I would be stuck with a choice of only the modules for power increase, but now with a flash, the Superchips sounds like something I have to do some homework on (a friend of mine has a 1705 on a 7.3 and he is happy with it). A few guys over on the other site steered me towards the SCMT because of its shifting quality --> there were just too many stories of poor shifting/tranny failures with the modules. I do not plan on changing exhaust or intake on this truck. I want something that will boost power slightly for heavy towing, have something mid range when towing lighter, and a setting for fun without tearing up equipment, and have good shifting and remove top speed limiter (for off road use only) . Anyways, sorry for the long introductory post and I will spend some time navigating through the site and learn how things work over here. I am very passionate about my vehicles and I see othere here who are too. I read the entire thread about the SCMT 1704, and a special thanks is in order for someone like Vic, who is obviously passionate about his work and who likes to share his expertise, yet be here in an unofficial capacity!
Welcome to the 6.0 forum and FTE. Please take a moment to review the Welcome sticky post at the top of the forum page. There are links to great threads and other info in there.
Sounds like you've already done a good job of reviewing the introductory material but an official welcome is always nice to have. I have the SCMT and have been running it for about 15,000 miles or perhaps a bit more and am quite happy with the performance improvement and increase in fuel mileage while towing.
It shifts fine to me and when I've gone back to stock the few times I've taken the truck in to the dealer I've really missed the SCMT.
I just wanted to jump in and send my thanks to Vic for the info in this thread. This thread is what made me go ahead and buy a tuner from Superchips.
My trucks runs great and seems to be getting the same or better milage and that is in the performance tune (BTW I have never been know as "easy" on the go pedal).
The highest I have seen on my EGT in performance no trailer is 1205 and that was in a controlled area with speed well in excess of what the speedo is capable of for a couple miles. Normal highway/city romps to 70-90 I haven't seen over 1100.
The only thing that I have noticed is when the engine is first started it wants to hesitate and cut out (0.0psi boost) during the first application of the throttle, even with the engine warmed up.
Also around 35mph it wants to hang out in 3rd like tow/haul is on but, it is not this happens anytime I am around 35mph warm, cold on 5 min or 5 hours don't matter.
The shift thing doesn't really bother me, but maybe Vic could answer the cut out and hesitate thing.
Sorry for the long post and in general I love the product.
When you plug your tuner in, it will give you a firmware version. What version do you have?
Just installed mine Sunday. WOW!!!! Its hard to belive a programmer can make such difference.
Glad you like it......
Sorry I've been away a few days, just got back from a snowboard/ski trip in Winter Park, Colorado www.skiwinterpark.com
Great place....1st time back there in 7 years. Lots of "ski in, ski out" resorts...hot tub, loft, good food everywhere.
If anyones is ever up there, you have to eat at Carlos & Maria's...best Mexican food EVER (better than Mexico). I've been talking about that place for the last 7 years, and luckily they are still there, so we ate there 3 days out of 4.
I think it's gonna be a yearly trip now, and I'm seriously considering going back in mid March this year =o)
VIC.
I have yet to find any info on the throttle response update I have tried about 20 different searches on here and the only stuff I found was my own asking you. COuld ya help me out? Ya know I did praise your product..

I need to understand what you are asking.
If you are asking about the actuator kit (which is not a throttle response kit, but does affect throttle response indirectly), your Ford dealer can inform you exactly what is necessary.
You can also call Superchips customer service and they can lead you in the right direction.
I talked to a sales person at Superchips a few days ago about the 1704 and I asked them if they had a h.p./torque vs. r.p.m. chart for the Towsafe and Economy power levels like they had for the High performance level on the website and the guy said no. Would you have any info like that or am I overstepping the boundaries of the questions you would like to field?

My 04 6.0 runs great with the superchips (14.58 in the 1/4 mile) but it shifts hard is this common for all programmers also was wondering if exhaust and air intake would help the programmer and if so does that void warranty since i must remove the tuner before going back?? thanks and would like to say this is a wonderful site and wish i had found it alot sooner.

Welcome to the 6.0 forum and to FTE. Please take a moment to check out the Welcome sticky post at the top of the forum page as well as the other stickies there. Lots of links to great threads and other information.
Most folks who've looked into the intake mods and reviewed the test data available believe that the stock air intake does a pretty good job and aftermarket units allow more dust to enter the motor. There are some gains to be had by going to an aftermarket exhaust but there's a debate on just how much backpressure you need for this motor to operate optimally.
Post your 1/4 mile time on the site using the Timeslips link at the top of the page. I turned a 14.33 on my otherwise stock '03 F-250 and had a 1.9 s 60 ft time.

The turbo itself creates more than adequate backpressure.
