Just so we are clear, I recommend a USB dongle over the BT dongle simply based on the integrity and reliability of the wired connection over the BT connection. My first plan of action was to use a BT dongle, but I was gifted a USB dongle and now prefer that method of connection. So, not so much a recommendation as it is a preference.
The OBDLink EX or SX will work, but they are a bit pricey. Another USB option is in the link below.
I have one of these I bought in 2018 and have used it in the past a few times. It used to be on the FORScan website listed as an approved dongle. It may still be there, I'm not sure.
Yes, the ATOTO A6 Pro has dual BT receivers, as you mentioned. That was the primary reason I went with the ATOTO A6 Pro as I originally intended to use a BT OBDLink MX+ for FSL and my phone for music and phone. On the ATOTO A6, one BT is designed to be used as a data connection for OBD purposes and the other BT is for media.
I encourage each person to use the method they prefer, whether that is BT or USB. Regarding the ATOTO A6 Pro, they have that choice.
Truth be told, if I had known I only needed one BT receiver, I may have selected another head unit. Although, I am 100% happy with the ATOTO A6 Pro after over 10,000 miles of using it for navigation, media and whatever.
Tristan, no need to apologize sir. I publish my ideas and methods here so that others can use them, learn from them or improve upon them. I have been known to change up an original design of mine for an evolution of that design that someone else engineered.
That said, be sure to get a mulit-coil charging pad. I really like the charging pad in the truck as it makes using and charging the phone very simple. Simplicity is the kin of often using something.
I hope you enjoy the head unit and it serves you well!
Thanks for all the info! One last question for you for now. Did you recommend that USB OBD dongle specifically because of the fact you've tried it and know it works or because you didn't like the one I posted? The only reason I was looking at the one I posted was because you didn't have to flip a switch. The one I posted is on foreskins website and has good reviews. How do you feel about it? Again thanks so much for the info!

Your welcome.
I only mentioned the cheaper USB dongle (with the switch) as I knew it worked and it was cheaper than the OBDLink options. I have no qualms about the USB dongle you linked, especially if it is on the FORScan website as a known working device.
I would say go with the dongle you found (no switch) and let us know what you think. Let us know if it is a viable and cheaper option for those looking to get back to a wired connection.

Gotcha. I was just curious. I will consider the options and make a semi educated decision! Thanks for your help!
Hey, so I after I installed the T4 I thought I was hearing turbo whistle thru the 6637 unlike the MST which only whistled out the tailpipe. Well tonight I accidentally figured out it is more like alternator whine thru the speakers in the A6. Anytime I hit the mute button it stops. Unlike alternator whine which won't stop by hitting mute. Not sure what the next step will be yet
Isn't that whine normally associated with a grounding or EMI issue?
I am not an expert in the field, so I could be completely wrong. I can tell you I do not have a whine of any sort from the head unit as most of the time I drive with no sound other than the navigation prompts.
I have fortified the main grounds and power cables too though. Might be related, but might not.
I remember reading it somewhere on this very very short forum we have here, but, just to be sure, is this the correct metra wiring harness for these trucks?
Sorry you're having trouble Wes, I don't know anything about that kind of thing but, I hope you get it sorted out
I got my auto A6 pro in today and jumped on making my wiring harness when I got off of work. Did you guys hook up the illumination wire for the dimmer switch? I don't really see a purpose in it but what are you guys think? Also, what did you guys do with the power antenna wire, and steering wheel key wires?

I did, it auto dims when the headlights are on, which is nice for pretty much every app but ForScan. ForScan is kind of dark, but there is a button on the bottom ribbon to brighten it back up if needed. Some of the screens are way bright at night not dimmed. Especially since the backlighting on these trucks gauges is terrible in my opinion.
