Quick questions for you install guys. I started trimming the dash piece. I trimmed the dash surround piece using both a hand saw and dremel (using duct tape to surround the piece to lessen chance nicks from a slip). I trimmed the top/bottom lips flush and left the sides alone since the width doesn't seem to be a problem just the height. Tried test fitting the radio through it, and it is still very snug despite the opening being flush top/bottom. So snug that it scratches the dash piece during the test fitting (the one I worked so hard to prevent scratching during the cutting phase). The picture is upside down and that extended tab is at the top of the dash opening.
.
1. Did you guys cut the extended tab circled in the picture below?
Shane, I don't think so, but I cannot be sure. I modified the opening many years ago when I installed the Jensen double DIN head unit. The ATOTO required a bit more dremel work, but not a lot.
I don't recall seeing that tab piece, but I also did the majority of trimming on the bench looking down at the dash bezel.
Yes, I cut that piece off. But the ATOTO sits flush on the bottom, only leaving room on the other (3) sides for the bezel. The ATOTO is mounted to the dash, resting flat in the radio hole and fastened down in the front using the ATOTO brackets and self tapping screws.
Finished my radio installation mockup only. I studied the different images and ideas and ended up with a combination of SSJ's and Sous's methods. I also finished install with my radio brackets installed in a different place on the radio than most of the pictures, but end result was about the same except maybe the radio protruding out just a little further. I started by leaving 3 slots in the bracket like BWST (figured I could always trim more if needed, but couldn't get it back). It actually ended up being a good radio depth stop in the end (just a sliver of metal past the 3rd slot). I then used SSJ's method of a screw in the feet to get final placement figured out. This alone would have been good enough, but I had already bought the washers and screws for Sous's method. So finished it off with that. Both methods have it super solid. I definitely like it better than the factory method of barely being held in by clipping to a dash install kit. I've ran my BT up near my gauge pillar. Still need to clean and adhere the wifi and gps antennas in place. I ordered my Obdlink EX and 90 degree adapters which I'm still waiting on before I can complete the installation. I still have my lower dash removed as well while I get my F650 dash mocked up for aux fuel gauge/controller and my AirLift airbag controller (which is still on backorder).
Echoing the comment from SSJ above, looks great Shane! Thank you for providing detailed pictures and a description. I feel your post will be a help to anyone in the future that also plans to get rid of the OEM mounting style.
To clarify my install of S8 standard. Camera to head unit via rca to rcin port. Camera to negative of backup light via black wire and camera to plus of backup light via pink wire. CAMERA POWER (RED WIRE) TO PWR ANTENNA, (BLUE WIRE,). Works as previously described.
Can't figure out steering wheel controls yet. Somewhere I read a post explaining that no additional "black box" needed.
I just got mine installed the other day and got my steering wheel controls to work on my 2005. Hook up the Orange/Black Steering Wheel Key (+) wire to the Blue/Red wire in Pin 18 on the factory harness. Then, go into Settings and then Default Settings, then Steering Wheel Controls (these names may be slightly different, I don't have the manual or radio in front of me). Then, make sure to press the RESET button, it will not program unless you press the reset button. Then click the button in the radio you want to program, such as volume up, it will flash, then click the volume up button on the steering wheel. The icon on the screen will stop flashing and have a little corner marker on the icon. Repeat for all other buttons. Worked like a charm on mine.
Wow, what a great thread, thank you to Sous and all the other contributors! I ordered the A6 Pro, and am wondering if anyone knows if my current OBDII adapter will work for Forscan Lite? I have an ELM327 that I’ve had for years, not sure if this will work or if I need to get one of the OBDLINK adapters?
I purchased that very same OBDII USB adapter a few years ago. It worked/works well on my 7" notebook that I travel with under the seat of the truck.
It may not be any longer, but at one point that adapter was on the FORScan list of approved adapters.
I read up on the toggle switch at one point, set it and left it. I don't recall what setting it is in though.
I would say, get everything hooked up and before final installation get the OBDII adapter working on the ATOTO. You will most likely have to change a few of the communications settings in FSL, but that is no big deal.
I hope this helps!

I’ll be putting this in an ‘05 F350 so I’m hoping with that truck’s “dated” technology it’ll work fine. I’ve never used it to monitor engine parameters, only to write code changes into the as built files, so I guess we’ll see. If I can save $40-$50 great! I’ll post up what I find out but it’ll be a month or so before I dive into that project. Thanks!
Got everything installed, the adapter works and the connection in Forscan Lite says it is "good", however, the thing lights up like a Christmas tree and at night is blinding and looks like a disco party going on under the dash. It also has a status light that stays on whether the truck is running or not. Also, even though the Forscan connection is "good" the dashboard seems to lag a bit, which gets worse if I have other USB devices plugged in, such as my phone to the fast charge USB port. Anyways, I ordered an OBDLink EX meant specifically for Forscan so we'll see how that works as I'm not happy with the performance of the prior mentioned ELM327. Thanks for the suggestions!

@Abendage , this is great information to have and we all appreciate you taking the time to list it out for us. I will tag FTE'r @aeroshots , just in case they do not come back here regularly.
I really like using the USB OBDLink SX (similar to EX) for FSL. I am sure you will have good success with it. I don't know if you saw in the posts above, I had to mess with the data speed rate of the USB connection a bit to find the right one that made FSL happy. I recall there being about 6 options and I got it on the second or third choice after using the process of elimination.
Fitted the RCA splitter yesterday, I can now view the rear camera whenever I like, it still comes on automatically in reverse but viewing it through the auxiliary port turns off whatever I'm listening to.......it's not the end of the world but I might just rewire the back up input through a switch with a diode to prevent the backup lamps from illuminating, we'll see, it ain't happening yet, I have more important things to be getting on with.
Since my phone had an update a couple of days ago it connects to the Easy connect app as soon as I plug it into the USB port, that's new but i haven't had time to investigate what now works that didn't before as the screen displayed looks more like Android Auto, previously I still had to use the phone touchscreen, hopefully now it should all work on the Atoto screen, watch this space.....
One more thing, you may remember that I contacted Atoto support after I was unable to download from the Play store, we'll after they got back to me (I had already resolved the issue from advice from the Atoto support Facebook group) which was on a Monday, I didn't expect a response before then anyway, they asked if I could leave a 5* review on Amazon as I'd been using the Atoto for several months, they said if I did I would receive a free gift (a steering wheel mount remote) so I did exactly that & 2 days later the remote arrived in the mail! My review although 5* said exactly what I thought of the unit, that it's overall good value for money although not as intuitive as other Android devices & although I've had a couple of issues, they have dealt with it promptly.
So that's another job, connect the remote.......
Do you guys know a source for a Carling style usb switch body that would plug into the female quick charge connections on the ATOTO? I wasn't going to use this port at first, but then I thought if I could find a Carling style that accepts USB (not DC) I'd use a slot on my F650 dash to add more charging locations.

Something like this maybe?
URWOOW Dual USB3.0 Square Flush Mount - 1M 3ft USB 3.0 Extension Mount, Dash Mount, Flush Mount, Panel Mount Cable, for Car, Boat, Motorcycle (3 feet)
I looked at that one. I believe it is too wide and too short to fit a Carling style. Found one on Crutchfield that I posted a question on their site. Not sure if will fit or not.
