Not at all... She does not throw the phone, she just drops it a lot as she is rather clumsy at times. I say that she can knock things over from across the room. Some say that is "telekinesis" and I just say "that is my lovely wife".

It was a good compromise of safety, longevity and slim case for our use. Works well enough for our active lifestyle and we will likely go with another Fre when she breaks the S7 and we need to upgrade.

We bought the Subaru when our Jeep blew a head gasket 600 miles into a 2,000 mile trip... One of the best purchases we have ever made was that Subaru. We will likely always own a Subaru, unless they dramatically change the way they manufacture vehicles as the times and regulations evolve.
@materthegreater / Glen, It has been great! I have driven and been charging the phone wirelessly through the "lifeproof" case for ~9,000 miles now, maybe a bit more. I simply turn WiFi hotspot on via a pull down shortcut on my phone, then set it on the wireless charger and it stays 100% or goes to 100% if it was not already. No overheating issues, no failure to align with the coil issues, nothing. Keep in mind though that I bought a 3 coil somewhat rectangular wireless charger to ensure charging was easy each time.
We use a similar single coil wireless charger at our home for each of our phones, so I didn't really anticipate any issues. Although, I feel the 3 coil charger is key to the success of the device.
When we left Florida a couple of weeks ago to head north back to our home in GA, my phone was about 35% on battery. I checked it a bit later just before our stop for stretching and walking the dogs and it was nearly 100%. It works really well and I am very pleased with it. Especially since if I didn't have the WiFi hotspot, the ATOTO A6 would just be a fancy looking radio.
I had an Otterbox Commuter on my Samsung S7 prior to the Lifeproof case, but swapped that out when my wife needed a new phone and we used another S7. Then, she needed a truly "lifeproof" case as she is not gentle with phones. Since we have a wireless cradle in 2 of our other vehicles and I like simplicity, I purchased a matching Lifeproof case so there was no adjusting required of the cradle. Whichever phone is in the cradle for navigation is simply placed in the cradle and off we go.
We have the Lifeproof FRE series case if that makes any difference to you. It is very similar to the Otterbox I had prior.
If you wanted to "test" the wireless charging capability of your phone in your case, I would say see if you can find a wireless charger that a friend, family member or electronics store may have for you to try. If the phone charges through the case in those situations, it would certainly charge using the 3 coil wireless charger.
As you can tell, I am excited about this as it is something that allows me to get in and drive the truck away. I don't want to do a "predeparture" checklist or anything involved. I want to drive the truck and let it do it's thing, just as it was designed to do.
I hope this helps.
Yes, you are very helpful as usual! I appreciate your detailed response.
@josht , a while back you asked me about cellular data consumption while traveling the country. I looked back at our data usage the other day for another purpose, but specifically looked at June 2021.
This was the time period where we traveled cross country 5,500 miles and used live Google Maps 100% of the time. We used an audio or video streaming service a 90% of the time. This was applications like Pandora for music, Spotify and YouTube for podcasts. Miscellaneous use of other applications and viewing was utilized during non-driving periods as well.
The data usage was 1.74 GB across 2 devices for ~2,750 miles.
I know you already purchased an ATOTO A6, but I thought this information may still be relevant to you or someone else.
Actually that is very useful. What little I have tracked it has looked like low consumption, but haven't used it a lot or for long periods yet. Thats a lot more usage than I'll get in a month. I don't see my monthly usage exceeding 1000 miles, probably <500 most months, and only a single device. Only an hour or two of streaming music each day I drive. I don't think it will come anywhere close to my plan's 10gb (might be 15 now) hotspot limit.
FWIW, Google Maps is capable of downloading maps for offline use for the bandwidth limited. Just download maps while you have wifi access somewhere.

Jason, are traffic diversions offered for road closures or weather on an offline map? This is generally not something required in the south, but those of us that travel up north in the winter may require this feature.

Negative. Map/route only offline. I generally load a route using WiFi from home and the traffic appears to be considered (shows slowdowns, etc), but it is not ‘live’ without a hot spot.
Wow, what a great thread, thank you to Sous and all the other contributors! I ordered the A6 Pro, and am wondering if anyone knows if my current OBDII adapter will work for Forscan Lite? I have an ELM327 that I’ve had for years, not sure if this will work or if I need to get one of the OBDLINK adapters?

I purchased that very same OBDII USB adapter a few years ago. It worked/works well on my 7" notebook that I travel with under the seat of the truck.
It may not be any longer, but at one point that adapter was on the FORScan list of approved adapters.
I read up on the toggle switch at one point, set it and left it. I don't recall what setting it is in though.
I would say, get everything hooked up and before final installation get the OBDII adapter working on the ATOTO. You will most likely have to change a few of the communications settings in FSL, but that is no big deal.

Thanks! I think I’ll give it a try. I’ve used it successfully on 3 different F150’s and my 2020 F250 I have for work for changing settings and it worked fine. A friend just got a 2021 F150 and it was unable to write to a few modules. I think it’s no longer on the approved list but I think it’s because of the complexity of the newer trucks. I’ll be putting this in an ‘05 F350 so I’m hoping with that truck’s “dated” technology it’ll work fine. I’ve never used it to monitor engine parameters, only to write code changes into the as built files, so I guess we’ll see. If I can save $40-$50 great! I’ll post up what I find out but it’ll be a month or so before I dive into that project. Thanks!
I read this awesome thread a little while back. Just spent some time reading it again. Did I miss any discussion on connecting steering wheel controls? Just trying to button up my install of ATOTO s8 and am trying to figure out the connections required to get my steering wheel audio controls to function. I get the programming required, but can't find information on wire connections. Anyone able to point me correctly?

I haven’t put this head unit in a truck with steering wheel controls yet. Please keep us posted on what you learn. Thank you!

Will do. I'm finding lots of information regarding other vehicles, but not ours. At present I'm needing information on identifying which 1, 2, or 3 wires from the steering wheel to the radio connection are applicable. (Wiring diagram)
