As inexpensive and rapidly outdated as these new headunits are, I don’t think they are targeted like stereos once were. If it was an iPad or something potentially more valuable I could see a junkie (risking his life) trying to steal it, but the street value of an ‘off brand’ car stereo without all the components (GPS/wifi antenna, reverse camera, etc) is probably less than your spare tire.
The tweakers and fentanyl smokers are more like rats. They are just poking around in the night looking for easy pickings. Loose items in your carport, shed or bed of the truck. The more industrious ones are stealing jacks and battery operated tools so they can cut catalytic converters off and harvest copper wire and pipes from buildings.
On that topic, if you have a Ducks Unlimited, hunt club, GLOCK, some stupid AR15 sticker, etc on your truck - the ‘rats’ are far more likely to smash your window looking for guns, mags, ammo and other gear.
I only have a UGA decal on my truck, and if anyone jacks with it, I figure they are from Tennessee. LOL
Well folks, it is Amazon Prime Days, 11-12 July 23, and I have been holding onto my piggy for a deal on the ATOTO S8 Ultra Plus, normally $599, now $479. While I have the cash, I am finding it difficult to 'invest" now that the deal is here. Looking to put this in my 2003 F250 Crew Cab 4wd, OEM dash, with the backup camera, steering wheel controller, OBDII Blue Tooth thingy, and .... there was something else....
I have this other 'itch', I hope others here have those too, but I REALLY REALLY like the 2016 interior, been dreaming, pondering, scheming about buying a wreck from COPART (Yes, i even bought a 'membership' one recently late (0400) nights, when I should probably went to bed. But, man, I am in love with that interior but do not want to spend the cash on a new truck.
My gut is killing me on putting the ATOTO S8 or holding off until i figure out if i am going to do the 2016 full interior swap. That decision alone may take a while, especially with my HOA ****'s boot stomping around.
Any willing to provide constructive feedback and direction to help a wandering soul decide before the Amazon Sale is over?

I've been collecting parts to do a dash and interior swap on mine. Got all the power swap stuff already. Trying to make a deal with a local guy for a 2010 truck for parts. Got a 11-16 cluster to go in it also. I'll be posting pics whenever I get started on it. There are a couple Facebook groups with tons of info on interior and dash swaps. You can pretty much make anything up to a 17 work pretty close to factoy.

I have been reading and there is a Military Vet who does the videos for the wiring of the entire dash, great work product he has. He said it takes him a week to properly wire a dash, so I figure a couple or 3 weeks for me to do it. He used to be in Florida, but moved to Reno, trying to get some more info on his processes.
I have the center front fold down seat/desk, which is nice sometimes, but man, the tech in the 2016 dash setups is like buying a new truck at a very low percentage of a new truck. Mine only has 118k now, have had it nearly 2 years with the original milage at 96k, so I will be 70 before it sees 300k if i keep driving this way and the money 'invested' in the interior/dash/gauge swap is so right vs a new freaking $100k truck with DEF, emissions and all that crap.

Post the pics when you have some.
Zachary mcfarlin who you talking about? He got tons of info and does great jobs. Just kind of shady on Facebook. lol

thats him. He even admits his faults, he takes on too much and gets behind. We all have made thise mistakes, he should take on some apprentices, make them sign a contract that prohibits them from stealing his tech, secrets. Etc, and chirn out a ton of good stuff.
Scott, even at $479 that seems like a lot of money for an Android head unit. I really enjoy having live Google Maps and FORScan in the dash, but would be going through the same decision process you are.
Honestly, I don't think that would be a good enough deal to make me jump right now, especially if I were up in the air as to future plans like that. You will probably find similar prices during other major sales periods through out the year. That said, I haven't priced them since I installed mine two years ago.
I also say that knowing that $180 prime deal for 2017 tow mirrors with adapter harnesses was a good enough price to make me bite. I honestly don't remember if it was a lightning deal or sale price. It's not showing me the prime day price now, but it could be because I've bought already. Link if anyone is interested: https://a.co/d/1hyj5W3
Looks like I need to figure out how to wire up the turn signals. I know there are ideas for heater timer somewhere on the forum and I've probably got it bookmarked. I also want to enable the puddle lights and add the door panel courtesy lights wired to come on with door open, but not with dome light switch if possible. Those are all topics for other threads though.
in stupid moment of rash thinking,
I bought the XTRONS rotating screen for my truck,
it will connect to WiFi so my phone can be the "internet" for it.
very upset with XTRONS though,
Zero documentation, not one word how to hook it up.
it has been here for six weeks, and I have not got back to trying to figure out the speaker wires....
one thing that has delayed me, is I replaced the junky steering wheel, and now the Cruise buttons don't work. argh!
depressing.... the truck was in the shop for 3 weeks, getting some work done, that is all finished up, and now I need to get back on the radio
Every single aftermarket radio I have installed in my life over the years are wired the same colors. From pioneer to cheap android head units. Speaker wires are all the same color. Green purple grey and whites. One of wash has a stripe.

it would be nice to know what each color represents?
