Sounds like you got a lot of cameras. I can understand why you would need all of that as well as the clarity and recording for your hotshot driving, I think it's a little overkill for my purposes.
I'd like to keep all mine (1 right now) on the Atoto that I installed last week. The current one is license plate area and shows trailer hookup and backing good enough for my purposes. Next addition may be a dash cam like Sous installed. Then I think the third brake light camera would be good for checking out what going on with bed and trailer going down the road, as well as traffic behind me if I care to see that. IIRC the head unit has DVR capabilities if someone was doing something stupid back there and I was worried about it.
The only other camera I can possibly think of wanting would be a trailer mounted camera, if I decided to add that the Atoto would still have another port left to plug it in.
Even all of that is probably overkill for my purposes.
I am currently only using the mirror / dashcam. My truck has a headache rack as part of the aluminum flatbed which blocks part of your rearview. Also, my back windows are all tinted really dark. The camera view in the "mirror" is higher than my gooseneck so if I don't have a tall load I can see straight back behind me. I thought about getting one of these head units, but hadn't gotten very far into researching them. DVR capabilities would be awesome. I would recommend that everyone have a working dashcam in their vehicles to protect yourselves against fraud. When I drove a service van, I was approved by someone who threatened to call the law and my employer. I pointed to my dashcam and said go right ahead. She got somewhere in a hurry!
I plan to use the reverse lights to turn camera on and use a switch and diode to send 12v to camera circuit when I want it.
I don’t expect to drive down the road with camera on, but I frequently put truck in neutral with foot off the clutch to back downhill. In the past, I have found it annoying that I lose reverse lights and camera while doing this. I will have reverse lights on a 3-pos switch like driving and fog lights. ON-OFF-ON with reverse/low beam/high beam.
I figure the guys reading this thread will know best. Which full width rear view mirror display would you use with that 3rd brake light camera? For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, there now exist rear view mirrors with a display built in so that your rear view is actually a video image. It still functions as a regular rear view mirror when the display is switched off. I saw one on a GMC I was following one day and I could see myself in their mirror.

Not truck related but I'm interested in a rear view camera for my skidloader.

Perfect! That is exactly what I have been looking for.
Joel, thank you for posting this information and sharing your experience with us. This is an economical way for people to add a camera with a discreet screen for easy viewing.
I am considering something like this for my truck if/when PMS kicks in again next winter.

Sous,
It replaces the rearview mirror with no rear passengers, dogs etc. blocking your view, and the viewpoint can be from up around your third light. AND it records everything to CYA.
