Doubling the reducer would be too thin, and really hurt you by making the paint easier to run, and your paint will not cover as well since it's thinner.
It shot well and leveled great. I'll cut back on it when I do the stripe though. I sanded down the doors and fender last night with a 1k wet sand. It's a beautiful smooth finish. If the Silver lays that smooth on it, I will be ecstatic.
It's been one hell of a learning process. Glad i listened and took the doors off to sand them. Wish I'd bolted them back on to shoot it all. I'd share pics, but you know.. if you want to see it you can just stop by since the pics don't really show all the little issues, or the metallic in the paint!
Over all, I'm happy with the job. First time learning from you, the internet and everyone else I could squeeze for information, and using a cheap paint. I plan to shoot the stripe this week and then all I'll have left is touch ups and inner doors. I think I have enough blue to do that.
I'll run it as it is for a few years, but may decide to sand it back down and reshoot it, since by no means is it perfect. But before i do that I think I'll invest a little in having a cleaner enviroment to spray in. I can block off half the shop for a booth type area. move all the crap out, and hit it with a good sweep and mop. But sanding that beast down is ALOT of work... alot..
Think I'll do the bare minimum to the interior for now... I think the next big hurdle is to get it ready for NCSI. it's a safety only, however, safety still has a tamper proof list that is required as well.
1. Horn wiring is hacked up.
2. Canister Purge system is missing
3. Cat is missing
4. bleed and adjust the brakes
5. Air Injection System is missing
Not much I can do about the air injection, as the tubing for that goes into the mani's and it has headers now, with the pump deleted, plus I'm not a big fan of those systems anyway.
The rest just takes time and money. Both of which I'm short on for this project. The TJ just hit 120k so I want to get a head gasket installed after the fishing trip since it's time for it to fail. Also would like to get a clutch in it, locker in the rear, upgrade the stereo (radio stations suck) and clean a few things since the cruise is a bit iffy. I'd like to have all that done by the October trail run. I'm going to dig to see if I can find an old stereo like the factory jeep ones that had a built in CB, for trail rides, but with bluetooth for phone as well.
Josh, I should have told you to wet the floor down before spraying if you did not.
It helps keep the dirt and dust down.
Only thing is be careful the hose does not kick up the water on the paint job.
chain around frame to the wet floor helps ground the body so dust and dirt are not pulled to it.
little tricks of the trade with no spray booth.
what year is the truck the has to go thru NCSI?
Mine will need to also and nor having a cat or air pump will that be an issue for my 81 F100?

So between what I was told by NC DMV first time VIN & safety check and that's it.
I was worried about no cat and air pump. Everything is new for safety so should not be an issue.
Thanks

That's how it was when I had Ka'Bluey there.
Now he's still parked at my friends shop. I'm buying the body filler and primer later this morning and will be starting back on that body work after the rain gets out of our forecast.
My goal is to be finished with the body, inside and out, and to be in epoxy primer by fall.
Same for mine, VIN inspection only, no safety. If you can drive to the inspection station at 35+ years old I guess they reckon it's good enough.
So what have you been working on PapaMatt?
Working on the bumpers while waiting on the heat\humidity to shoot the stripe. THe back is screwed and will take hammering\welding and cussing to get it back to looking right. If it ever would. But it's beyond my ability. The front was a chrome that someone sprayed. Laquer thinner is pulling of the spray, but looks like they scuffed it up before spraying so... can I rub that out.. with some high grit paper (like 2k or better) or is it best just to invest in a different unit?

1, that's easy to fix, 2, they don't check that at jiffy lube, 3, throw Luna in the cab , 4 easy, 5, jiffy lube don't check that either
Thanks guys for the info on what DMV wants on our old trucks.
Josh, what year is your truck? I have a chrome step bumper on my style side 81 parts truck that I will not use on my flare side, they just don't look right.

We got an insert kit and it's running fine now. Mechanic shops are silly, quoted the owner $7000 for a crate because they thought it had a bottom end issue.
