I'm gonna have to rebuild that 1406 I'm getting from my friend, I'll probably just dunk it in a bucket of B12 chemtool and let that do the work for me.
I might see if I can run an adapter plate to get it to work on my 2bbl intake. I think it's just one big open hole under the carb (as opposed to two individual holes) so it might work okay til I can find a decent intake for cheap.

Look on Ebay and set the low/ high price to whatever you want, I see these new no name performer rpm style intakes for $127 on Ebay.
It should be running on the engine tonight, but last night I found a picture of the correct factory piston linkage, it's like what I have now but has a rod sticking out for the piston linkage, I'll make a little tin bracket that sticks out and make a new linkage for it. I guess I will be using that drilled hole after all!
Well I ran in to a couple minor issues with the install, 1 is I bought too short of carburetor studs but I already got new ones, second the fuel line that I made hits the distributor, I found a carb shop on eBay selling Holley part # 26-25 banjo fitting for $9.00 with free shipping, half the price of the stores!. But for tomorrow I'm just going to loop the fuel line around the other side so I can get it running, I will also need to relocate my fuel pressure regulator but I already have an idea of where to put it. The 1" of PCV spacers sure made the engine look bigger. I'll also need to make a throttle cable bracket spacer but that'll be a 10 minute project.

Stuff like that is why I give people a huge number when they ask me how long something's going to take to fix. What I might think should be a 20 minute job almost always turns into an hour long affair on account of rambunctious fasteners or something. lol
Huge numbers eh? haha, I'll have to check the fuel pressure with the gauge inline, the first time I checked it without the regulator it was deadheaded and read 10 PSI.
I have learned to follow the same motto. For instance, we are doing a bathroom renovation. My step-dad was saying "Oh yeah, it will only take this weekend to do" We are already at 1.5 weeks. We keep running into problem after problem.
My SiL recently asked me how long it would take to replace the water pump on his Jeep's I6. I looked it over, thought about it and came to the conclusion it should take 1/2 day, and told him 1 full day. I wound up doing the job and sure enough, it took 1 full day. What shouldn't have gone wrong did, many times over.
