I was wondering the same thing. The stain should hold up. I didn't like how it came out the first time and it took a terry cloth rag and lacquer thinner to get it off. Water had no effect on it. I am not sure what will happen when the bulb heats up tho. There was another stain I looked at that when it dried you put it in the oven and baked it at 200 degrees.
I liked the idea about contacting the American Truck Historical Society.
I had planned on contacting them about the truck hoping they might feature it in their magazine. I was going to do this after I had some professional pictures done.
Rich,
I am not sure about the companies you are talking about. It would ge great if what you said happened.
I may have scored a nice wood roof ladder. I am still waiting to find out. A man from my fire truck club located one in northern Florida. A small city had one in their surplus inventory. I had to send an email to the cities Mayor offering him some money. He was supposed to present my offer to the city counsel last night. So far no word. If they accepted my offer, one of the guys will bring the ladder down to me next month when we have a meeting in my area. I need two for my truck. I was given one already but it is in poor shape. I tried restoring it the other day by sanding it some but it still looked pretty bad. I will have to come up with some way to keep it secured in the rear compartment. Here are some pics that show it was stored:
I had one like that on the 47 pumper. Folks down the road borrowed it with out
asking. Never seen it again except once at there house. And they said it was there's and had had it for years.
Hi Keith, That looks like it is a roof ladder, not an attic ladder. Roof ladders have the folding hooks to catch on the peak ridge. Attic ladders folded sideways so they became a narrow piece to be able to go through doorways and narrow hallways. At least that was my experience.
Tony, you are right. My goof, its a roof ladder. The city counsel was busy with other matters the other night so the ladder was never brought up. My friend emailed the mayor and said we needed to know by October 26th so they can bring it down to me.
I spoke to Ron about a week and a half ago and he said he wasn't doing well. He said the doctors wanted to do heart surgery but they were concerned he may not pull through it. He asked me how the book was coming along and mentioned that he hoped to see if before his health failed. I had been thinking about what he said the past few days and decided to print out the book, put it in a nice binder and send it to him. I tried calling his cell today to tell him the book was on the way and got no answer. I just tried his home and his wife answered. She said he had his surgery today. He is in guarded condition and not really responding well to the surgery. He is receiving excellent care and I certainly hope he pulls through. He will be in my prayers tonight. I would like to ask for additional prayers from everyone who was touched by his story. Thanks!!
Keith,
My thoughts and prayers to Ron and his family, and to yours.
Through your trials with this truck and from sharing your families history, the trucks history, and the Chicago Fire Patrol's history I feel a connection to Ron.
Come on Ron, hang in there, we're pulling for you!
Bobby
