Bummer on the projector.
That means you'll probably end up at a shop that specializes in that sort of thing.
I wonder what the options might be....does a local college have a media arts dept? the local TV news stations? Library? I don't know much about old film but I might guess that the difference in the hole spacing is the difference in home use films and professional....I don't know, just guessing
Talk to the local TV station and ask who does their POST PRODUCTION -- they should have the equipment to convert to CD or a number of different media. It is not an inexpensive process so just be ready to spend some dollars. You may be able to trade them the use of the film as what is called 'B' roll footage - you get to keep the original film and a newer media copy and they get use of the converted footage to sell. Good luck.
PS- my grandfather was a chief in Chicago in the early 1900's with horse drawn engines. His station was on State st and is now a restaurant call "THE FIRE HOUSE" his lead horse (3 horse team) was blind but would go right up to a fire. It also smoked a pipe after every fire. Have fun
No website Rich. I might go back over after the Bear's game.
You a Bears fan? I must tell you then that I coached Robbie Gould, the Bears kicker, in high school and youth soccer. His dad was an All American soccer player at Lock Haven (PA) University a few years after I played there. I coached Robbie in our youth program for several years and he started varsity soccer as a skinny little 9th grader. He scored 46 goals in 22 games his senior year.....
Thanks guys. I will look into your suggestions. I made some calls today and some local businesses will transfer all the tapes for 20C a foot, so the whole lot will be $180. My friend from the museum said they will split the cost with me.
Abe, I'm not a true diehard Bears fan! Since I'm a Chicagoan I like most of my home states teams. To be honest, I could take or leave all sports!! Never been a sports fanatic!!
That's a classic skit Ilya!! I just saw that the other day. They had some marathon on SNL.
I found someone to do the films. It will take 2 weeks. It will be tough to wait that long!!
I can do the basic where it is one continuous film or break down each reel. Its $80 more to divide them and make titles for each reel. I think it will be better split.
Keith, I hate to, (No, not really) steal your thread, but if I can post a photo, I believe you will be interested, If I can't, I will e-mail the pic to you..
Today I met the guru of car show television!! Dennis Gage from My Classic Car was at a local car show. What a nice guy and a hell of a mustache!!
He really liked the truck and kept commenting about the sleek-body. He asked to see the engine and I even started it up and ran the siren. What a fun show!! I got caught in a bad rain storm on the way home. It was interesting as I have no windshield wipers. I made it home OK. Here are some pics:
