Joe – I got you down for a ride no problem.
<O</O Bobby- Good idea about the ferrule .. I will look into that.
<O</O AXRacer – The lenses I have now are plastic. The smaller glass stop light lenses are out there, the trouble is they are usually not sold as a set and the individual one always seem to be slightly different from each other. I did think about the black vinyl already. I am just going to use what I have until I find the right ones.
<O</O I brought the bell and my drawings to the metal shop on Thursday so they can get working on the bracket. They are supposed to call me when they start working on it because I would like to be there when it’s being fabricated. I also dropped off the rear bench seat base so they could make a 2” band around it and seat back brace like is on the officers seat. When we were prepping the officer’s seat, we took the back brace off and it looks like the seat bases were painted red and the back support braces were black. I was going to go bases matte black and braces gloss black. No sure what I am going to do now. I also got the holes drilled for the bumper mounted lights. I will get some pics this week. <O></O> <O></O>
I had an issue with the door. Partly our fault and partly the painters. We didn't check the clearance between the door and the hinge on the drivers side so when the door was opened it scraped the paint off the hinge. Plus there was a 3" run in the door. So yesterday we shimmed it correctly and took the door to another shop to re-shoot the red portion of the door. We got some small stuff accomplished too. See the pics:
Yer doing a nice detailed job. Than detailing that. Just please do not be afraid to drive Her when it's done (as if they are ever really done). Like local car and truck meets, parades and the occasional neighborhood house fire.
I just had a thought. Put a BBQ in the back. Than instead of throwing candy in parades ya can throw hot dogs and burgers, Extra mustard please.
If you can get a clear lense for that light housing, you may be able to paint it with a translucent green paint. Easy way to get that done is to add green paint to clear coat paint and then cover the lense. I did a similar thing to some tail lights, but instead had black paint added into the clear in order to make it dark and "smokey".
Yea, I remember that they should be one green and one red. I agree, it shouldn't be too much trouble to paint the inside of a clear lens to make a green one.
This truck will the the hit of any parade! Ringing the bell and wailing the siren, it will be awesome
I brought my gauges to a local rebuilder. He quoted me $300 for the speedometer without doing anything to the pitted case. His price seem high to me. Does anyone know a rebuilder that is good and reasonable??
Notice the mileage!! That's a lot of mileage for a old fire truck. The speedometer still works good. I would like to find a replacement case.
Are you just after a good trim ring? If so, I may have one that's in decent shape and a lot better than yours. Otherwise, they're real easy to take apart and clean. You just need to pop the trim ring loose and everything in the front will come apart. If the speedo needle moves, then I'd just add some graphite lube through the hole for the cable.
Are you also looking to have the miles reset to zero or will you keep the current mileage? I can reset to zero if that's what you want.
I'll look around for the ring later today and let you know.
