Got the bulbs in the mail yesterday. I was right after all, they did not make a green bulb. The company that sold the bulbs just put a coating on it. They say in time the finish may fade or chip and to keep ammonia products away from it. I'm sure it will hold up better than a glass stain I bought at a craft store. As you can see from the pics its a dark green which is better. There is a short video to see. All the lights are cool to see at night. I will shoot a video of it another time. I took some pics of the leather ext strap and compartment door stops. I still need to install the interior D-ring to guide the stop back into the compartment. Shot some pics of the cheap rusting Home Depot hinges that did last very long. My better quality ones should hold up better.
Thanks Rich. I am still need 80 more books sold before I can go ahead with the printing. My ad in the Chicago Fire Museum just came out so hopefully it will generate some more orders. I plan to put an ad in my FD union newsletter. Last night I joined a few more truck website forums trying to promote the book. I will get there eventually!
Keith,
That's a little bit of a let down about the green lamp. Not a huge dissapointment, but still a little bit of a bummer. It sure looks good though.
I sure hope the new hinges hold up longer than the first set. I can't believe they started rusting in such a short amount of time. Of course, I'm used to living out here in the desert where we don't have moisture...LOL
Ron's wife sent me some pictures of the funeral. The Chicago FD had an honor guard stand by his casket the entire time! It kinda freaked me out a little seeing him in the casket.
I got the word on the ladder today .... the city had decided to keep it for whatever reason. I will keep looking!
My book ad in the Chicago Fire Museums newsletter recently came out and I got an email from a man's daughter looking for a book. The man worked on the Patrol. I got his number and gave him a call. He's 81 and guess what ... he worked on Patrol 5 from 54-56. His memory wasn't the greatest but I did get some new information out of him. I asked him if they ever had any mechanical problems with the truck or if it ever broke down. He said it was a good running rig. I might put his comments in the book.
Its my son's 11th birthday tomorrow so I am bringing the truck home for the party. That's about it for now...
I think that's great that you've made contact with yet another "Patroleo". Pretty cool that he had personal experience with your truck and you were able to speak to him direct.
That old truck sure has touched lots of folks over the years.
Yes it has Bobby!! I just got back from the big Friday night local car show that Hot Rod magazine lists as one of the top 10 weekend shows in the country. It averages a few hundred cars every Friday night. Its a great show that has plenty of cars, a live DJ, vendors selling auto memorabilia and really good restaurants. I ran into a female firefighter who is a bodybuilder. I showed a picture of the truck to her & her husband and she told me she wants to use it to do a photo shoot. She is from Chicago and would like to get some shots of her posing near it. She is pretty muscular!! Maybe she will let me post a pic here.
At the last minute I decided to take the truck to a local car show today. While we were there the guys that run Car Show Television showed up and were filming the show. I went up and introduced myself and asked if they would be interested in doing a segment on the truck. They said yes and did a 5 minute interview. It should be ready during the week. I really like their show. I will post the link to my interview when they get it up! In the Lake Classic Car show Part 1 at 14:20 they interview a lady about her Aunts Model T that she owns. Its a cool story to check out!
Very cool, I can't wait to see the interview
I'm sure glad you're able to reap the rewards from all of your hard work on the truck. Thats great that the truck is getting put in some shows and driven here and there and not just sitting under a tarp in the barn. Good for you!
Thanks Bobby! After the interview was over and I was driving back to the barn, I was thinking about the things I left out during the interview. Oh Well,
I'm just glad they interviewed me!! I'm sure it will be fine.
