i like these better than a yota or limie. In some cases those have beefier components but just don't rise to the surface for the road. These R built for u.s.a. as they can really do the on rd, the "off" U can customize (and may B should as each can B so different).
The Saginaw steering box cap upgrade starts Monday, I am searching for a new needle bearing to add to the inside of the cap. I am getting a spare Sag box sector shaft to take to the bearing supply house to get parts matched up.
Well I had to cut a place in the core support for the new "tapped front" cap to have room. I love a pneumatic body saw with Red Diablo blades. Then I had to modify the "Blue Brace" to be able to bolt it down tight and still be able to access the 4 bolt "tapped" top cap area. For install purposes I just plugged them off for now.
Got the steering box installed, NOTE always connect the steering shaft before you bolt the steering box down. That way you do not have to loosen the steering column. It does NOT have a telescoping steering shaft. Got it all together, Blue Brace, Duffs brace and the front skid plate on.
Installed the p/s pump belt. Connected the lines, jacked up the front end and left the pitman arm off. Pulled the coil wire and bumped it over shortly to start the bleeding process. Added fluid, bump over, fluid, bump, fluid. Coil wire back on, started it, ck fluid, add a little more. Lock to lock X10 ck fluid, goes great.
Connect pitman arm, connect steering stabilizer, idle, jacked up lock to lock all is good. Leak ck the whole time, the new caps are holding great. Now take it off the jack and WTF its NOT working, it is like it is back flowing or hydra locking the pump, to the point it stops the p/s pump pulley and squalls the belt. WTF WTF I barely have any p/s.
I even did a lock to lock (with the front tires off the ground) (with the wifes help) and checked the fluid thru the whole range of steering. Level never dropped...
The fluid is moving to the fluid cooler (its warm) so WTF? Did my pump take a dump on me? Or am I air locked? Suggestions?
Duz the new 'top' bang up against the internals so as to not allow movement?
No! its OK when jacked up offa da ground. Is it up higher at the steer wheel its self?
May B I don't understand what UR describing. Will go back'n re-read
The new caps are not any different on the inside and do not interfere with anything going on inside the box. O triple double triple checked them before installing. When the tires are off the ground (jacked up) it works great, take it off the jack stands and NO p/s.
Rich the only thing I can think of is the pressure relief valve in pump is stuck. little piece of something hung it up. Pull the pressure line off pump and the relief valve is under the nut where the line screws in. it should push back and forth. it has a spring in there also. Good luck.
No I did not work over the valve yet...I am still working the air out. It is working, just not 100 % and I want 100% for the trail. If I take the high pressure line off to get to the valve off and poke around in there, I am back to square one as far as bleeding it.
