I hear you on the timing issue. I don't think you'd get it done in that time either. If I remember correctly, when I bought my Bronco it had a Carter AFB 650 cfm which was just way too much and sucked off road. When you're ready to go EFI, I suggest you find a whole rig and part it out. It really does help pay for itself and you can take your time with the wiring while still driving the Bronco.
he's OK (actually good), but man, wants to makea sale...
is "our member' over at fordsix...
tell'em "Chad sent ya".
BTW: hasa Sun dizzy spinner & "re-curves them". Can show U how to thread a different sz wire (thinner/fatter) into a
metering block, etc. It's all pretty esoteric ta me~

I appreciate all the input from you both. Keep it up, I learn every day. And I hate being under the gun to do a mod. I put myself in this timeline (well having to go to work too) and I should just "wheel it as is" and just do not go searching for the need for "umph". Lol
No personal experience with it, but a couple guys I used to work with swore by a Quadrajet if running a 4bbl. They said it was almost as good as an Autolite 2100 and way better than any other 4 bbl at running at weird angles or when hitting rocks.
"...I should just "wheel it as is"..."
The Heck wid THAT !!!
The one thing I appreciat abt U Rich is U dream big (me too)
/AND/
make it happen - as well !
C U back here ina mo w/a plan (& probably the parts too knowin U)~
I have read that about a Q-jet, also the Bronco came with one, but it was running like such CRAP when I 1st got it. So I just hot swapped a Edelbrock to be able to at least pull it in and out the work space. When I dropped the rear fuel tank there was no pick up tube sock and NO inline filter in the system so I figured the Q-jet was full of junk. I still have it and have put in my bucket of option to try. Rebuild and run.
Can you translate this for me? "C U back here ina mo w/a plan" See you back here.....?....?....? Lol
Under the circumstances, I don't think it's a mistake to go with a carb again. It'll just cost you more if you do finally go EFI, but it won't be exactly "money wasted" if it gets you down the trail with a smile on your face.
And if it's a big enough smile, and keeps you busy tuning it for the next couple of years, maybe you won't go EFI anyway! Or might be able to score the style you want for a more reasonable price. At least that's how I like to think of things going...
Definitely hard to wheel a Carter. Been there, hated that. Loved it on the street and ran the Carter 500 longer than any other carb. Way too easy to tweak and tune and play with, and super reliable. But put the nose more than 2 degrees down, up or sideways and life sucked again.
The Quadrajet is a wicked well designed carb. A lot of people went to them years ago, with not so many now. A friend wheels the wee out of his (also a '71) and it never coughs or even thinks about stalling.
Yours may either have needed some love, or maybe the fuel pressure was too high. Pumps are inconsistent these days and Rochesters really only like 2 or 3 psi to stay happy. Most pumps are putting out 5-9psi and they don't like it.
However I would think the high pressure is more of a problem off road than on, but I don't know that. I remember selling Cagle brand pressure regulators (vacuum operated like a modern EFI regulator, but back in the '70's and '80's) and they had a Quadrajet specific model that was lower pressure than the others.
You can still play with it, and I might do that before EFI even, but just before a trip is not the time to experiment. Just get 'er done and done. And enjoy the gatherings.
sorry, learning disability, arthritis, no keybd skills "See you back here..." back state side with a plan
No harm no foul, I had most of the intent, I was just was stumbling with the rest. Got it now. A plan, the 1st step in executing any thing.
Paul yes get on the trail with more umph than is has now, or just wheel it. Maybe I can flip sale the carb down the road if and when I can swing EFI. Or get time to do the Explorer swap like Darrin says.
The day I can't get in and wheel it, is the day I better be getting buried in it. Yes folks I am taking this one with me.
Looks like my wheeling buddy has a new rig. The son in law just got this 76 Bronco with 39.5's on beadlocks, Mustang EFI motor, auto trans, twin stick D20, D44 front, 9" rear, both have lockers. Obviously stretched and yes that is a rear elliptical leaf spring set up.
Well his has some suspension mods to make it way more flexy, lockers in both axles and 39.5 tires, and a longer wheelbase (which helps on some obstacles) compared to the tube buggy. But I have him in wheeling years and experience. Lol So like they say, skill beats youth....unless it is a flat out foot race. And I always keep the key to the beer fridge with me. SO I am the winner no matter what.
No worries I will let him get it all figured out, by having him follow the red one for a while, and then he can take trail point. And now we can carry trail spare parts evenly. I am sure I will get my time behind the wheel on it too.
Guess I need to get him on FTE and have him make a thread about it.
...Guess I need to get him on FTE and have him make a thread about it.
that would B nice 4 us.
I often go national or international (the web) for local contacts.
Here we have some locals (& less so) we have met through this method * (FTE Regional). We have a daily thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-the-fall.html
where the guys ck-in/BS, communicate abt nxt meet-up, etc.
* I C a "Projects" forum for ur builds.
* And this one I C as 'tech assistance, Qs, a finger to point to wanted/sales, "extra".' concerning the '66/77 bronk.
10, 12 yrs ago I saw alot more admin input abt this to help things stay organized. Looser is good too (I'm annal but not totally) so getting him to show up is the main thing ! The more the merrier~

I am sorry that is all that registered to the comedian side of me. LOL LMAO. I might have to go in and edit that complete quote, it makes you sound like a freak. Lol X2
We have a Missouri chapter chat and BS thread and September is up and running nicily. I do not think he is much of a forum/chatting kinda guy. So I might have to do this for him just to keep you all in the loop. I might just make another thread on this forum and manage it for him. I am working on more pics, because we all know we all like PICS.
