Cabin and camper spot rental info. SMORR ? Southern Missouri Off Road Ranch » Rental Cabins
Whenever U got the auto writers (this case bronk/FTE guys) on ur side yer doin better'n OK. Here U got several (4?). Just goes ta show what: friends, experience, gambles, willingness, $, time, space, tools, a bronk - hey wait a sec. All that don't come easy! Congrats, Bra! Keep it up...
Now..., writing it up wrong? I don't havea loader/hoe. And aint close geographically...Just a misquote, hey? Then again, on the other hand, they did alright with: "...Of course, we’re oversimplifying here..." an understatement when Ur in country and out, shorta time, stuck out 'on the acreage', etc...
Now if they do another on Hill Billybug I'll feel more a part...8^ )
Keep it up Rich, no 1 can like U, many happy returns, all blessings on U, ur home'n family !
Input, advice, 0.02 ? Overrated, to much $ for a carb? What ya got? I found a sort of local to me Holley Elite dealer and can get it for 5 ish....
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
After spending literally 40 years telling us that we keep putting too big of a carburetor on our engines, and when using their charts seeing that something in the 350cfm range is all we need, they come out with the Truck Avenger series and after everybody and their brother can't get the 470 to run right, they're telling us that no, those are for six-cylinder and very small V8 engines and that we should be using the 670 instead.
So call them and ask if that is still their recommendation. I think it is, but I have not heard or seen discussions about it in a long while.
I'd love to hear that the 470, which seems the perfect size for a 302, would be the perfect fit for a Bronco. Even if it takes some tuning to get there.
Oh, and I know you've been doing this stuff a long time, but from my experiences, don't expect to get much more power. I liked every mod I ever did to my '71's 302, but was singularly unimpressed with both the power gains (minimal) and fuel mileage gains (nonexistent) after tweaking.
I installed new and better ignition products, four different 4bbl carburetors, different exhaust designs (but no headers) and only one carburetor improved things drastically in any way. That was (oddly enough) the 450cfm Holley Economaster smog carb. Amazing off-idle response to the point I no longer had to feather the clutch, and 2mpg better highway economy. The throttle response was so clean and crisp I literally could let the clutch out without giving it any gas and it would just roll right along without a single complaint. Got finally got more than the 15.5mpg I got with the stock 2bbl, and the Carter 625.
Unfortunately, it could not get out of it's own way and I had to get rid of it because the engine lacked any full-throttle vigor.
So yeah, check with Holley first.

And as I read in newer posts and discussions the latest word from Holley is go to the 670. I haven't contacted them directly. Their web site CARB SELECTOR lists 28 options. I went with the 302 and 4000 rpm. And the 1st three are the 390/465/470 CFM carbs. The 670 is NOT one of them mentioned.
I then went with the 302 and 6000 rpm, 27 options and NO 670 to speak of. Yes I need to call and talk to Eric directly and see what a live person has to say. Now I got plenty of skinny pedal power "full-throttle vigor" (I like that term) from the Edelbrock 4 bbl. As long as I was flat out, straight and level, something my Bronco does not do a lot unless loading on a trailer to go off roading somewhere.
Rest assured that if I get the 470 carb I will post updates and tuning mods. Along with alot of questions I am sure. I already did an electronic ign swap (Ford duraspark), it has a Edelbrock dual plane intake and headers.

fitTeck (correct name?), sniper, etc? One better? easier install, more durable, best value package? etc
(U can site some urls if easier)
Thanks, yet again, Darrin !
I even have asked around some sort of local hot rod shops about an Holley system EFI swap job. $$$$$$$$$ Holy cow they want more than I paid for the whole dang Bronco in the 1st place. Now I know why I figure out and do things for myself. Maybe it I win the lottery I can go EFI.
If all I had to do was get home (recover from jet lag) and start on it, I might be able to get all that done in time. I really doubt it though, because I have a wife/house/other family members/grandkids and a lot of other issues/projects to handle at the same time while home, for a rather short period of time. Plus get the Bronco ready for a 3 to 4 day wheeling trip. I am thinking a reliable carb swap, a little tuning and I will be ok.
If not, then I will let you yell from Badger Mountain or even Mount Rainier "I told you so". And I'll laugh with you at MY dumb mistake. It it running pretty good with the 2bbl, I just need more "umph power" when I get on it.
I know U as a good mechanic. C my note on where to concentrate (good ign tune/parts)
then carb (PV & jets that wrk best in ur application). "Talk" with "Billy".
