New 71

Hello all, just stopping by to introduce myself and ask a few questions.

The door jam tag says birthday of 9/70, vin # matches title but title says 71, it that because it was built in the later part of the year correct?

And it has twin tanks, what is the switch position in regards to feeding off what tank?

IMO, outboard switch position is for main ='s rear and inboard is aux or side tank correct?

And where is the dang tank selector valve itself?

I go it as another project, and its a mess and needs some TLC, just going to make it reliable and continue to wheel it.

It has moved to to top of the project list, BTW. And I am trying to get smart as possible on these things thru the web so as not to bother anyone on here with a newb question.

Gauge selector switch is on dash, tank selector is between your feet below the seat. Can't remember which way is which. Another good source for you is classicbroncos.com
Looks like it has seen some bogging. Enjoy, should make a fine trail rig.

Ok so the switch that is on the far left side of the dash, just below the throttle ****, is just for the fuel gauge?

I thought the switch on the dash was to electrically switch between the tanks, or am I misunderstanding something here?

Correct. Dash switch is gauge only, tank switch is manual. But after all these years and owners, you'll probably have to trace the fuel lines. I've owned four and worked on many more from 66 thru 77 and haven't seen an electrical tank switch stock, not saying you won't find one though. It would still be a solenoid style valve where the tank lines meet.

Ok I got it, the gauge doesn't work any way. I think I'm going to drop the tanks and give them a good cleaning and see what is hooked up to what.

There is alot of PO mods done to it that I am still trying to figure it all out, thanks for the help, I'm sure I'll have more.

...alot of PO mods...

ditto in tryin to ID from one single tag. For some reason in the 90's these things became very popular to hack up or otherwise mod. U can never tell what's been done with one unless you've seen a lot of them NOT modded.

I run down each part number (had er since '83) than average the sum out ;- }
It took 3 - 4 to get mine back toward original. May B if it wuz a $10 or 20 thousand rig all would match. But none a dat would match ME!

I C U got may B 3 FS Bronks. Any have the sliding side windows in the back?

Judging by your list of vehicles, you're no stranger to previous owner "modifications". Enjoy, they are fun trucks.

Sorry Chad, 1 came with no top at all, 2nd with the rear windows blown out of it (was rear ended) and the 3 has regular just plain glass, no slider.

But I just seen on MO craigslist a top with sliders for $200?? I think. BTW all 3 FSB are for sale, ck out my FTE garage if interested.

I need to sale them to fund my latest project.......lol

gfw1985, I have got a few "modded" trucks, PO installed front blocks and stacked back ones......duuuuuhhh.

Well got the exhaust pipe ran from the headers to just pass the xfer case crossmenber area might hang some mufflers on there.

Enjoyed a 15 min drive around the property, still need to tune the carb, but it runs.

Looks like I have no actual switch to go from main to aux, also looks like they might be plummed together, I'll know when I drop the tanks.

Side tank dropped, was full of gunk and not even hooked up to anything. The filler neck was not even connected to the tank anymore.

So its staying off, one less thing to drag on a rock, now to get to making my sliders to save those rocker panels.

Making a tread plate overlay, so I will end up having a small storage area under the pass seat.

The nice thing about EB's is the fact you can "redesign" them to your personal use. What engine/tranny/gearing is in it?

Was a 6 cyl with a 3 on the tree, clutch pedal is still there. The PO swapped in 289 C-4, not to sure on the axle gearing, I am still figuring it out as I go.

I know it now has a disk brake front end, and p/s (not a factory option for that year, correct ?) Trans and p/s coolers, alum rad w/elec fan and I believe a different rearend also 8.8 or 9" right?

Am going to do the tire-d/s rotation thing to get the gearing, but I know its LOW.

I am trying to get it to at least start/idle and shift in gear (cable just broke). One thing for sure I am having fun with it.

Well, it has a T shift Dana 20 TC, low range is lower than the J shift. I would have to check my pic's a bit, but 71 would have had Dana 30 front axle, later years, Dana 44. Easy to check as it will have a castellated nut on top of the knuckle's(ball joint). PS and disc were available 76-77, but could have been added.
