I had a B&M ratchet / detent shifting in my Bronco when it had the auto trans. I forget the exact model of the shifter. It was pretty easy to use once you knew the tricks, but the one time I took it somewhere with mandatory valet parking they got it stuck somewhere because they couldn't figure out how to get it into reverse.

You had to lift the shifter and pull it back out of park to reverse, then pulling it back farther would pull it into neutral and the lever would drop down. At that point pulling it back all the way would move it to 3rd. Then release it and pull back all the way again for 2nd, and repeat for 1st. Up shifting was the reverse process, pushing it all the way forward for each gear change, release and push again for the next. This would let you ratchet between 1-2-3-N.

To get back to reverse I think you had to be in 3rd, then lift and move it through two detents to get to reverse, and a third detent to get it to park.

It was nice with the manual valve body I had because it wouldn't go too far and shift two gears at once (or end up in neutral or reverse accidentally). But it was a little odd for new people to figure out, and it went away when I went back to a manual trans.

Sounds just like a Z Gate except you have a T handle to add into the mix. PITA...lol. I am gathering parts to go TBI next.

Similar to a Z-Gate I guess, but mine doesn't have the T-handle to lift up. Looking at B&Ms offerings now, I think mine is the Megashifter. But now the Megashifter has a T-handle. Probably a design change over the past 10-12 years

I like the ability to go from P to D to 1 to R in a flash. No pattern, gate, T handle, bump, ratchet (Quicksilver) what ever.

Ok so the new replacement cable and new (correct) trans mount bracket are on. It is all connected up with a 0.375 in. O.D. outer jacket Super Duty Race Shifter Cable and I still used the old B&M unimatic shifter that it came with.

I do not like the cable routing 100%, but it as good as it is going to get with the lack of clearance I have under there.

I had to make a cable clearance clean cut in the trans hump (directly aft of the cable output) and a body doubler cross piece.

So now gathering a few more pieces needed for the carb to TBI swap.

The body doubler piece that was notched, was a cross piece right where the trans hump meets the flat floor. It is a 1" notch and I am not worried about it causing any weak issues in that area.

I don't recall what brand(s?) I had. The first one probably came with my Holley ProJection, I think I got the second at a NAPA or something. The original quit working pretty early (a couple years or so). The second was still working when I went back to a carb, but that wasn't all that long either. So sorry, but not much help.
