nope getting my Trans built here in a the next few months.

even the Torqueshift needs built, But compaired to the 4r100 it will hold alot more power before needing built. I can see how easy it would be for V-10 Guys you just need the computers and wiring and it is a Direct swap.

Yea, with the V10 and 5.4 it can be done with all factory parts pretty easy.
Trying to make one work with a 7.3 is messy to say the least...

Well, since this is "V10 vs PSD".....

I talked with a friend of mine today who is a well driller and has multiple 7.3L and one V10.

He said the V10 will hang with the Powerstroke when pulling a load, but, it uses alot more fuel and more rpms.

It (the V10) likely will not be running at 300,000 or 500,000 miles.

The Powerstroke also has the ability to be mdded as to greatly increase power, the V10 not so easy.

Thought I'd come and stir the pot

You have just said EXACTLY what most logical V10 owners are already saying.

However, the V10 has proven it will get CLOSE to 300K even when it's being regularly worked.

I would love to see the maintenance records for those 7.3s you mention

That is very true.
It does not use that much more fuel, but it does use more. Gas is cheaper though.

That is not true, the PSD will not last any longer than the V10.

The increase cost for diesel fuel has hurt one of the big debates for a diesel, that being cheaper fuel, which no longer exists.

Maintenance is the key to any engines life. Using the proper oil and oil filter, air filters, and fuel filters, as well as antifreeze. Keeping the engines operating at their best will help them last a long time. A 7.3 will go through a couple sets of injectors by 500,000 miles, a turbo or 2, and glow plugs and relays.

Don't know about a V-10 and what all it would need. Other than oil changes, air and fuel filters, and sparkplugs, what else would you likely need to replace by 500,000 miles?

Intake elbow on the throttle body( <$10 ) is rot prone and the COP's would likely need to all be replaced once. They are $45 and there are 10 of them.

My 7.3L routinely gets 20mpg empty, and 16-17 pulling 8-10,000 lbs. I've never heard of a v10 that gets more than 14 mpg empty, and 10 pulling 8-10k.

That is not true, the PSD will not last any longer than the V10.
Fact: a properly maintained 7.3L will outlast ANY gas light truck motor!

If that was all that had to be replaced in half a million miles, everyone would want your v10

There are also chevy 350 v8 motors with over a million miles on them, but that is a very rare occurance.

I know of countless 7.3L with 3-400,000 miles on them that are still going strong. I also pretty frequently hear of 7.3L with 500,000 plus on them.

That is hardly the case for gas engines in general.

I have heard of 7.3L with a million on them, but that is also very rare.

I work on Ford trucks, and more specifically 7.3L Powerstrokes, and out in the field or on the road they last longer. If gas engines last as long, and could pull as well, why don't we see them in over the road and big rig trucks?

More rpms= shorter life. and that too is a fact.
