We can discuss this til we are blue in the face, but it will not change the fact that a 2000 5.4 4.10 with manual will touch a 6.2 with 4.30 auto or 6.0 with 3.73 auto.
The 5.4 is a dog in a super duty regardless of transmission, or gears or whatever math you want to put to it.
The manual tranny will only help in its low gear (or 1st, whatever they call it), once the 5.4 is shifted out of that gear, it's all over for it. But it can have it's 5 seconds of glory before being sent to the slaughter house.
I also would not be very pleased with a 5.4, but for some it suites their needs, so be it. Good for them.
As with most of the rest of this thread, this statement is your OPINION.
Many people are quite happy with their 5.4s in a Superduty. YOU wouldn't want one, and that's fine, but for others it does what they ask of it. Same for the V10.
I totally agree. But when someone throws out the 5.4 will pull harder or will get off the line quicker than the 6.0 or new 6.2, it needs to be defended. It just ain't true.

That's why you get the 6.4 with a manual tranny and beat up on all of them
not to mention there isn't a person on the planet that can shift faster than the newer automatics. No, I'm not talking about a NHRA top fueler setup, but a regular transmission like in your truck.
Biggest difference i can see in shifting is that my left foot and right arm control shifts with a manual, a computer and my right foot control them in an auto. i can shift sooner than an automatic would at WOT. An automatic will hold gears longer at WOT, I can shift sooner and get back into the powerband faster with a manual.

Not that I would want a manual for speed shifting, but I don't think regular automatics are all that fast. The fast autos are the ones that are more or less manuals with automatic shifting like in Ferrari's and other high end sports cars, although dual clutch tranny's found in some VW's can shift stupid fast to; but none of that tech is in the super duty.

You obviously have not been in a torqshift with a psd. When I am pinned unloaded it is seemless, up to about 3,500 then drops to about 2,500 or so each shift, zero drop in power or acceleration.
Now my buddy with the 1995 manual psd is close off the line to me but loses a truck length or two each shift and can't make it up. No diesel manual will run with a new auto past first gear.
We are talking about pulling and I can agree there are advantages to a manual.

Crazy, did they total your last truck? Your new truck looks nice though!
Yeah, the damage was over $27K and they didn't want to fix it. So another FTE-er bought the wrecked truck and will be rebuilding it. Kind of neat how it worked out.
Love the new truck, but haven't gotten the chance to drive it in the last two weeks. Have been at a military school which goes for about 14 hours a day, 7 days a week. I'm done tomorrow and really looking forward to the long drive home!
