Are you sure it has the same tranny? In that I had a Chevy half ton with the 5.3 and a tow rating of 8,000 pounds or whatever. But my wife's Impala SS with the same 5.3 (though tuned differently with more HP and less torque) has a tow rating 1,000 pounds or whatever.
Either way, I would never tow with a car and yeah not as bad as the other pic since boats aren't as bad.
The front drive Impala SS and Rear/four wheel drive chevy pickup have to use diffrent trannys.
The F150 4R70W and crown vic 4r70W are the same other than very minor things.
BUMP
is F150 really rated for 11,300 towing?
Most of light trucks and SUV are rated up to 5000, what in Europe is towed by cars like BMW 318, or Mercedes 280.
When the 500 lb max tongue weight can be managed by most of suspensions, per my sketchy comparison -1000 lb tongue weight on my flatbed adds close to 3000lb on rear axle. That is some serious issue. Especially when heavier tongue weight takes load from my front wheels and I skid on braking.
When properly equipped. The problem with a lot of the 150s is when you will exceed the GVWR and payload ratings fairly quickly, especially the super crew.
The Crown Vics and Merc GM are actually pretty capable tow vehicles. The self leveling rear air suspension was a really nice option for towing.
Problem is if you scale a half ton and check it you will find it doesn't take much to have an overload on the rear axle... even with a fifth wheel. Been there done that many times. That is why I have the truck I do.
The weights given by Ford are for a stock truck with only the driver in the cab. Anything above that takes away from that rating. Most ratings are for a bare XL with no options.
