About the same price as rebuilt injectors and a new HPOP for a 7.3, probaly higher than that. Haven't priced them in a while. A new EBPV valve and new turbo every 100,000 miles or less will run another $1500 at least not to mention a new set of glow plugs @ $800; and that doesn't include a short block for a 7.3 @ $6,000. Yeah, go ahead and laugh cause for sure YOUR 7.3 ain't gonna make no 1 million miles.

Pap
Myself, I had 8 injectors (150cc swamps) and the glowplugs replaced by a neighbor for $1500.00 cash. $800.00 for a turbo. As for the EBPV, most guys throw them away when doing a turbo swap. Many of us either do the work ourselves, or have a reasonably priced neighbor do it for us.

Are V10 guys on a first name basis with every gas station attendant in their town?

Resale value of a V10 truck sucks compared to a psd truck. :P

Bought my X for $14K, KBB says $20K for it now.

KBB for my V10 at 40K miles (and it is) is $17,205, retail. Same exact truck with a 7.3 diesel, $20,535, around a 20% markup.

$3,330 difference. What sucks about $17K for a 10-year-old truck?

I'll tell you one thing, an electronic diesel, even the 7.3, at 10 years old, with no warranty? Nope, not for me

Hey Art, with only 40,000 miles on a 10 year old truck, what do you do with it? Your application would certainly fair better with a V-10, or perhaps a 5.4 over a diesel. I thought I was bad at only averaging about 12,000 miles a year on my 02. My 97 though, that's a different story, at over 50,000 miles a year. I've put over 200,000 miles on it in the 4 years I have owned it. I just wish I could get the mileage out of it that the cummins guys get.

Believe it or not, I do actually use it almost every day, but not for commuting to work until the last 2 months.

It's been to numerous camping trips, long road-trips of 1000 miles round-trip, it's hauled, gone through 3 feet of snow, and been used like a truck

I'm very fond of saying that it's ingested at least 200K miles worth of air and fuel, because it's been idled and run at long periods of time pulling trees through the woods in Upstate NY (complete 60ft trees with the tops and everything), and a whole bunch of other jobs that make it my favorite vehicle

My first thought was you only drove it to church on Sundays, then I realized who I was talking to!! If you ever venture to Ky on a camping trip, or anything else, let me know.

glow plugs $800? turbo every 100K or less?

I guess my truck didn't get the memo, I am over 320K on the original sticks turbo and glow plugs. Still starts fine at -20 not plugged in. Heck it has never even had a valve cover off. I did have to replace my CPS at ~ 290k, that is $17 I'll never get back.... but I am pretty sure it's life was ended by the body shop it was at welding a new beside on without disconnecting the batteries...they also took out my remote start and alarm.

it is amazing what letting the turbo cool down after a hard pull will do for it's longevity.

I laugh when I hear people make outlandish claims. I picked up a complete Turn key 7.3 when Blew out my PMR's for 2400 and it had a year warranty.

Paid about 1500 for my 230cc rebuilt injectors. Turbos can be had for 300 dollars. Stock injectos are much less expensive. Other then me Blowing up my engine running to much HP on PMR's no problems other then the self inflicted one.

No matter how you shake it, the V-10 will alsways come out ahead on longivity due to the low maintenance costs and low replacement costs, not to mention lower fuel costs, lower oil/fuel filter changes; you name it and the V-10 beats a diesel in almost every category.

Your kinda picking the cheapest V10 prices and the highest psd prices.....

I feel very sorry for someone who would pay $800 for glow plugs. (3 1/2 hrs labor plus $15 a piece for Motorcraft GPs is about what it takes)

Average life for injectors is 200k, somewhat more for HPOPs
I have seen lots of 300+k trucks with original injectors.

Nobody, and I mean nobody replaces their turbo every 100k. I don't know who told you that.

A 7.3L LONG block can be had (reman) for less than 5k, and there are many less expensive options than that.

Most 7.3L owners Never replace a CPS..... (it takes a big 10 minutes....)

There is a higher percentage of high mileage 7.3s than V10, I see a fair amount of 7.3Ls with over 600k that still run great.

Only thing I ever replaced on my 7.3 was the intake heater that never gets used.

Oh and check out that stock turbo with over 160K miles on it.

Yea, Snowseeker, I can count on one hand the 7.3L with 2-400k on them that didn't have the original turbo. That is out of hundreds of trucks I have looked at or worked on. I don't know where some of these "myths" come from....

Besides, I don't think us diesel guys were trying to prove anything in the first place. We love our diesel trucks, use them the way we want, mod them the way we want, and if you say that your happy with your V10, Fine. We don't have any quarrel there, just don't make it sound like we would be better off with a gasser.
